If someone can link me to another section of posts that'd be just fine too. I just need the answers to my questions, not necessarily a repeat of answers. Make it easier on folks. Thank you!

I've torn the bike down and have the stator and charging system rotor exposed. I have a couple of questions:

1. Do I have to rotate the engine to remove the stator and the wire that runs under the seat, or is there a way to remove he wire from the stator itself?

2. Does the removal of the charging system rotor require the crank locking tool?

3. What do I need to do to get at the voltage regulator?

I have a service manual, but there are some points it is far from helpful on.

1) no rotation needed. remove the connector under the seat so the wires are exposed, attach a mechanics wire and pull the wires down through the frame. Then use the mechanics wire you left in place to fish/pull it back up, reinstall the connector.

2) yes, no other option as installation requires 300ft pounds of torque on the rotor nut... seriously

3) its just under the seat on the left, patience

hope this helps, there is a pretty good sticky with pics

Do you have a link to the sticky? I'm poor at navigating forums.

Also, thank you very much for the help! It gives me a good idea.

2) I used an air impact, and one or two others have done it too. YMMV with that, but it is possible without a locking tool.

I pulled the 3 wires out, one at a time, and left the sleeve in place.
With the last wire, I pulled a piece of derailleur cable(1/8" stranded steel wire - bicycles) to pull the new wires in with.

Best to use a giant 4' long 3/4 drive 500# torque wrench or a smaller one with a "torque multiplier".
Or a 2' breaker bar with 150# at 3 o'clock static.

I really do appreciate the help. Taking a crack at it again this afternoon. The options as far as that CSR are concerned have now opened up, and I better understand what to do with that stator wire.
