I tried searching for a way to test the stator while out of the bike to determine if it needs to be rewound.
I started to do the rotor mod from EBR and once I had the oil drained and cover off I realized I didn't test the stator output. Now I am wondering if there is a way to test it now that it is all apart?
I would hate to get it all back together just to find out I have to pull it apart again.

there is equipment to test a stator for insulation "strength" on a bench:
a) a Hy-Pot machine/meter

b) a Megger or Meg-Ohm machine

...you might be able to find a tester like the ones above at an electric motor rewinding shop, transformer shop or auto electric shop that trouble shoots alternators.

insulation breaks down with heat ...
test your leads continuity to ground (set your meter to the lowest ohm setting.... check the meter by connecting the two leads together and record any "reading" you may get - this reading may be referred to as "zero" ohms)
1) place one lead to ground (put a nut and screw thru one of the stator's mounting holes and tighten the screw and nut - connect one lead to that nut and screw...that will be your "ground") - probe the yellow wires in the grey connector with the other lead from the meter and see if there is any continuity - your meter should read infinity...you would want no connection - if you have a reading - there is a short to ground (the insulation has broken down) and your stator needs to be rewound.
2) if you have passed test #1 (windings to ground)
- test all the wires in the grey connector...place one probe on one wire and test the other wires for continuity...if you have a sensitive enough meter you will record some resistance ( for an '08... book value is 0.1 to 0.3 ohms) from "phase to phase"...if you see very high resistance or infinite resistance- you have a broken (or burned) wire in the windings and that phase is not creating electricity.
3) passed both tests? - go down to Harbor Freight and buy a cheap heat gun and heat up the stator ( not too hot...200 deg max...spit should not sizzle but evaporate quickly) and test it again...hope this helps.

Good news Stator checks okay, bad new is the voltage regulator tests bad.
