Love the Bike but it spends more time in the HD garage than in my own. Not to mention with each repair it's another 1k out of my bank account. Working on 3k now..

So I stopped at the gas station, after the starting process sounds like a cars starter going out for the past few months. Now you hear it spinning and not cranking the engine.? Anyone else have this problem? I'm sure this problem as been documented somewhere on the site and I'm not putting the pieces together..

Thanks for any info..

Bad sprag clutch? If you take the stator-side cover off, you should be able to spin the gear on the back of the rotor freely in one direction, but not in the other. If it's not grabbing, then the starter would just be free-wheeling rather than spinning the motor.

Not sure what a new one costs, but to replace it, you will have to take the rotor off.

Guy that works on my bike said that if you run the old Stator/Rotor prior to the fix that may also have some effect on the starter clutch. To replace all the parts about 7 Seven of them it's comes to about 400 plus add in labor so maybe another 600 to 700 for the fix. If you allow you old R/Stator to run down your battery and continue trying to start with that combo before fix.

Which I ran my old combo for many months before fixing so be-warned, don't run your bike with a low battery or this can happen to you. Another side effect of the Rotor/Stator/VR issue. According to my HD Mechanic. Makes sense.

Hopes this helps someone before you have to break open the piggy bank.
