So I just bought my 1125r, its a rebuilt salvage from texas and took it to the DMV here in California. They attempted to do a VIN verification, and I found the frame numbers easily and pointed them out, but I can't seem to find the engine number, I found the shortened Vin tag on the right side crank case, is this the Motorcycle engine number or is there another serial number some where else? I'm getting an appointment from the CHP for verification later next week so I'm sure I'll have to point it out to them. | ||

The shorter number is the only motor number I'm aware of. Z | ||

The chassis VIN # is 17 digits long The engine # is 11 digits long. The difference is positions 1,2,3,8,9,and 11 are missing from the engine. If you have, as the street rodders call it matching #'s, positions 4,5,6,7,10,12 thru 17 of the Vin # will be the same as the engine #. If they are not your vehicle at one time or another had an engine change. At least that is how I understand it. (Message edited by 46champ on March 03, 2013) | ||

Don't know about the individual digits, but 46 has it right. The engine number is a "partial" of the VIN. | ||

thanks for the help everyone. The info above was correct and CHP verified my bike didn't have a stolen engine and I got the bike registered. |
