Hello all, i have a problem with my 1125CR. After a few weeks and after charging the battery i started my 1125CR. Everything ok, but: No LCD on the display. It´s a bit strange, the tachometer and the indicator lamps work well, the bike starts good, all switches work as they should. Only the display is dead. I sprayed the connector with WD40, but it still does not work. Is there anyone who had the same problem ? I´m at loss. Sorry for my english ! Greetings from Germany Thorsten | ||

are all connectors properly connected to the ecm? did you try a new instrument cluster? | ||

Run a hair dryer over it for several minutes. Get it nice and warm. Let us know if that worked. | ||

I've had it happen to 5 or 6 clusters at this point. They just kinda suck and get shaken to failure. Order up a new one. | ||

Thanks for the fast answers. I will check the connection to the ECM and test the hair dryer method. I also ordered a mulitmeter to test the conncectors. I hope something will work, I have no desire to buy a new instrument cluster. | ||

They just shake loose. Usually they go a bit intermittent first. I suspect the solder joints on these things just crack and wear out from all the vibration and bouncing around. | ||

I had the same problem on my cluster. Everything worked except the LCD would fade out. If I pushed the IC around the edges I could get it to work. I ended up taking the IC apart and the pins for the LCD that go into the printed circuit board are NOT soldered in but simply stuck through some holes. The pins were centered in a way that they didn't contact the board. So I pulled the LCD out and just tweaked the pins off to one side reassembled and haven't had a problem for over 5000 miles. Hope this helps. To get the IC apart just remove all the screws from the back and use a putty knife to gently pry it apart. Watch for little o rings on the inside around the screw holes as well. | ||

I already had this problem for a short time last summer. But it disappeared from itself. I also think the connection has broken somewhere, at the weekend I will try to fix it and than i will report it here. Thanks for all the help ! | ||

I'll have to look. I usually keep them as spares. Of course, they would already be "paired" to my ECM, so the mileage would never be correct. Are you OK with that? | ||

While you're thinking along these lines... Jim, I would love one for a week or two to examine under a microscope. Navy taught me component level and micro-repair. Sounds like you say the solder connections are suspect; That's my specialty. After I examine the boards and connections, I'd return it. All non-destructive.  ... no-wink. Z | ||

The one of these I tried to take apart I basically just destroyed! But, I have two that are in really good shape physically that have failed. I can send/sell either. I'm racing this weekend in Houston (first race weekend this year!!!), but next weekend I can pick them up from my garage at the track and send them off. If you are in SE Texas, come see a bright orange 1125-DSB get passed, left in the dust, humiliated, and so on. I pretty much suck in general compared to the rest of the CMRA, but especially at Houston! | ||

JDug, you are spot on with your self assessment.LOL! It's time to let the balls hang out a bit. MSRH is a easy track to figure out, come find me and I'll find a few secs for you. |
