Yes, I have oil analyses done by Blackstone Labs. I've had three analyses done on my 1125--after 600 mile oil change, after 1200 mile oil change, and after 5000ish mile oil change. I'll have another one done when I change the oil in the fall. www.blackstone-labs.com I also have them do all of my other bikes and cars too. | ||

Probably the easiest way to answer that, Afhans, is for me to post the analyses. I'll have to edit out my personal info first and they are saved at work. I used Mobil Clean 5000 10W40 (non-synthetic for the 40-mile and 600-mile oil changes and switched to Mobil1 15W50 at 1200 miles. It ended up shearing down to a 5W30 over the ~4K miles I left it in there. Right now I'm running Amsoil 10W40 and will have about 4K on it when I dump it in the Fall and do another analysis. | ||

I used Black Stone Labs because it was simple, cheap and they had a large online presence. Got my results back fast, like 1 day and a weekend fast. The analysis is basically a spread sheet listing all types of metals and common contaminants you might find in oil. Then the amounts they found in your oil and then a comparison between your oil and an average of everyone else with this type of engine. seems reasonable. I was just curious and for 25 bucks the analysis included a comment section that made me feel it was money well spent. I mean now I can continue to ride the shit outta this bike with out too much concern! Right? Comment Section: ""TODD: No obvious problems turned up here. Metals look good compared to averages. Aluminum is perhaps a little out of line, but not by much, and it might improve with subsequent oil changes. That often happens. A trace of fuel turned up, though that's fairly common with bike engines. Chances are good it's from something operational like low-rpm operation. It's not hurting anything at all. Sometimes fuel will lower the viscosity, but your viscosity is normal for a 20W/50. Low insolubles show good oil filtration, and silicon shows good air filtration. Nice engine!"" sound pretty good to me | ||

I should send in a sample of mine with all the glitter and debris from the clutch. I bet they reply "YOUR MOTOR IS GOING TO BLOW!" You should see the stuff at the bottom of my oil pan each change. Spooky, I tell you. |
