I am looking to upgrade my rear shock. Would it be foolish to buy the Showa race shock (EBR site)or should I save and buy a better one?
I am going to stick with my stock from forks for another season, but they require a rebuild.

The EBR shock is a good shock. It's not money wasted, IMHO.

The step up would be a Penske triple-clicker at about $1100-$1200.

Thanks, probably order the Showa then.

Personally, I would put the money in the front end first.

It's Money Well Spent.
I installed both the BP forks and Rear Race Shock last winter.
I installed them one at a time so I could see how each one made a difference.
IMO the Rear shock made the biggest difference in handling (just by bolting it on)
The BPFs.. well they have better damping qualities than stock.

The EBR kit for the forks isn't bad, either. Actually, like the shock, it's quite good, especially for the price.

If you are doing it yourself, than it's an excellent value. If you are having a (good) tech do the installation, you may find you can have AK-20s for within a couple of bills of the EBR kit, and they are a step up, IMHO.

Honestly, I think it's great we have these options! For roughly $1500 you can go EBR, and get a very nice set up. For $2k-2.2k you can go fully "pro", and be into the realm of rider preferences, not so much quality debates.
