I have a Jim Dugger prepared magnesium, belt dive rear wheel with cog and brake disc, in great shape to sell. I also have a stock front wheel minus disc to go with it. Any idea what the pair together is worth?

Magnesium is among the lightest materials out there. A large part of Titanium is made with Magnesium. It is lighter than Forged Aluminum and is more expensive.

For automotive applications, Titanium, Magnesium, and Carbon Fiber is not very well represented simply due to their cost. However, their weight advantages is well regarded in the Aerospace industry, as well as in the Racing arena.

Is it worth it? If you want the lightest wheel, yes. Do you want a wheel that light on the street? I can't answer that for you.

No, magnesium is among the lightest METALS out there.

>>A large part of Titanium is made with Magnesium.

No, both magnesium and titanium are elements. Therefore, neither one is made from "a large part" of anything else (even when alloyed, BTW).

>>It is lighter than Forged Aluminum and is more expensive.

True, but magnesium is also more fragile, making it a poor choice for any bike that encounters potholes. It also burns on its own once ignited.

With the rotor and pulley, it's around $600.

I *think* that wheel also had hybrid bearings and Titanium hardware...

Correct. Additionally, the grade of Ti often used for fasteners is Ti64, which is 90% Ti and 6% Al and 4% V... no Mg at all!

Our friend Rogue is just misinformed.

That $600 is for the rear wheel only, btw...

Jim, got that. Seems like a really good deal to me. Lighter wheel, hybrid bearings, Titanium, cog and disc.
