So how can I check my voltage while ridding the bike at the same time? This has been puzzling me for the longest time because I am getting a system voltage come up and want to be able to look at volts when riding. Thank you for help. | ||

You need to have a 2009+ bike or a 2008 with a 09 cluster to see the voltage while riding. Otherwise you will need to install an aftermarket voltage monitor. | ||

Usually if you get system voltage.... At least my experience is that the voltage is too high and you will not get a number. Try this: While rolling, shut off and restart then switch cluster display to volts and you "might" get a number. Easy way is to hook a multi meter to the battery and you get live info while riding. After 20,000 miles, 4 stators and 3 VR. SYSTEM VOLTAGE means your regulator is shot. Just my experience | ||

System Voltage only comes on it is either too high or too low, it won't specify. Again he has an 08, he has no easy way of checking the voltage while riding without adding a voltmeter. | ||

Unplug the VSS(speed sensor) and you can monitor system voltage thru Diag Mode. Just don't F-U while watching the dash...  Z <edit> I wasn't very clear, the IC will drop out of Diag Mode as soon as it sees a signal from the VSS, a safety feature. If you unplug the VSS, you can roll and stay in Diag Mode. thank you all for this. I thought that I was really stupid for not being able to look at volts while riding. Guess I will have to find an aftermarket voltage gauge. Happy Holidays to everyone. | ||

Check your ground connections at the batteru and at the frame. Also check your batteries charge i have an08 and the battery is older but a tender remedies this problem if my battery gets low i get a system voltage error as well high rpms will fix this on the fly then tender at home. A new battery may solve this but i think the system is a little weak fot the way in which we are using the bike ie.commuting and play . The bikes were made to race and all the lights fans and goddies draw more power than recreational driving typically charges the system . Ride it hard and she behaves better it is what she was made to do. | ||

Austin - I put one of Kuryakyn's LED v/m on Loretta, then shortly after got an 09 IC on warranty. 09+ firmware shows more info while riding, in particular, system voltage. Here's an old shot while in Diag Mode - IGN on/lights on/motor off. I drilled a hole in the fairing stay, so no wires are visible on the v/m  Loretta has passed her 4th birthday now, just shy of 28k miles. Original batt/VR/stator/rotor. Rode her about 20 miles 3 days ago. Z |
