Something is most likely loose.

One of the slider bushings sits in a slot a little wider that itself on the fork tube.
Virtually all of these forks clunk, especially when hitting the front brake.

The clunk can be mitigated a bit by loosening the triples and re-tightening, but I don't think there's a way to completely get rid of it.

Wait, there's a fix I forgot about... BPF aka Showa Big Piston Forks.

Could be loose or worn steering head bearings.

I notice the same symptoms when I am pushing the bike around the yard. (can't hear that kind of noise when it's running)

I was told it was the steering head bearings. I bought new ones, just have to install them to see if it fixes the problem.

There a few things that I would like to know.
1. How many miles
2. Have the forks ever been rebuilt
3. Are you a wheelie person

My 1125R makes the same sort of "clunk" noise in the front end. As Srosenquist mentioned i noticed it while holding the brake and rocking the bike (loading & unloading the front suspension). As Craigsmoney mentioned i also notice when pushing over a choppy surface as in my backyard. It seems to be coming from the right side fork only. It's been doing it all this season since spring and has not worsened. My bike is an 09 with 7700 miles but has been clunking since around 4500. Forks appear to be stock and untouched, i am not a wheelie or stoppie person.

9000 miles
Yes, new bushings, seals and one new slider
Yes but not a LOT

Mine started doing this after the most recent for rebuild but it is only audible when compressing the front suspension with the brake engaged. If I put the front tire against a wall, I can bounce the suspension with no noise. So I'm pretty sure the brake rotor moving slightly is what's causing the noise. I'm not worried about it.

changing my springs, spacers and oil almost completely eliminated the noise in my forks. The rotor will make noise, but you can hold the back brake and bounce the front and still hear the fork clunk. It's the spring hitting the inside of the fork tube or the plastic bushing moving.

I used to be able to feel mine going over small bumps at slow speed, but that's all gone after the swap.

Thanks for the tip. I will have to try bouncing the front end without the brake engaged and see if mine still clunks. I dont recall my XB12R clunking when i owned that with basically the same front end.

Yeah about 6k miles I had the same problem. Had the head bearings replaced and all was good. Now im at 17k+ I think my shocks are the cause this time.
Lots of wheelies = lot of cleaning the front fork tubes with WD 40 and a rag : )
Ride fast and swerve
