still years away from production... and an electric motor on an 1125 rofl!!!!

When they get this tech sorted it'll be great, but in the articles I read they're talking about exotic electric motors and 27-48volts!!

people have done this before, but 12volts means huge amps and big cables.

"how about a leaf blower?"

been tested for sure, Julian Edgar at http://www.autospeed.com/ did some testing to investigate the possibility of electric superchargers.

Think Reg K did this to dyno mounted S1 back in the day. It's in an old copy of Battle2Win if anybody can remember those!

Don't think it made huge gains though. The leaf blower is more about volume than pressure.

There's a good article here.......

http://www.sae.org/mags/aei/11244/

Looks like it would be used for short bursts of 7 seconds max. I read somewhere else it draws a few hundred amps. I can already smell my stator burning.

^ Yep, there's nothing magical about an electric supercharger. It still takes significant horsepower to drive one and a bike's (or car's) electrical system is just not capable of delivering enough power to produce significant boost.

Considering the motor they use goes from idle speed(?) to 70k rpm in a third of a second, that 200A draw will be a small part of the 350 MILLI-seconds.
Looks viable to me, even more-so with some more R&D.

My Gen 1 honda insight commuter car which runs a 1 liter 3 cylinder and an electric motor for boost could handle the charging. But the problem is you can't just throw a blower on anything even with a/f and ignition sorted out the bottom end has to be strong enough particularly low rpm forced induction.

Leaf blowers are for one thing and one thing only - starting bon fires.
