Another charging system thread for me.

My brand new stator from custom rewind shorted to ground after wires were compressed during installation. There is a little ridge/rib in the ignition cover right where the wires take a 90degree turn and need some extra room. As I tightened the retaining clamp for the wires I guess it put too much pressure on the wires and I think after a little riding it cut/wore through the insulation and it grounded.

Unfortunately this happened at a track day! Since It seemed like i only lost one leg (volts were kinda steady at 12.1) I borrowed a trickle charger from a kawasaki team and just charged the battery between sessions. Chuckwalla is an awesome track, really flowing and smooth, but I spent a lot of time worrying that i might stall. In the end it ran fine and i finished the day.

I sow Hildstrom had the exact same problem in the exact location and everything. Now I just need to figure out if I can do a professional enough repair to feel confident. Ill probably call custom rewind and let them know what I did and see if they want to repair it for a reasonable fee

Spoke to Gary with Custom Rewind today and while he is a little tough to understand, due to a medical issue, I did understand him to say "send it back and we will figure it out"

So it is on its way to Birmingham AL now...

I am confident he will treat me right and fix it quick. All of my experiences with this company have been very positive

Another +1 for custom rewind, they replaced all 3 stator leads and only charged me 10 bucks for the return shipping. I should have it back in, up and running in a couple of days.
