So, I'm a really big fan of Erik Buell.

I own 4 Buell motorcycles and while I know that is no record, I reckon it puts me in the top 50% of Buell motorcycle owners.

I own an 1125Cr which I love. It developed the dreaded clutch weep and the general wisdom of this forum pointed me to the updated EBR Clutch Actuator Cylinder Kit.

The part is $99.95. I have no issue with this as precise things cost money.

What I take umbrage to is the $13.60 charge(full 13% of the item) to ship the GD thing to me. While I don't doubt UPS Ground may cost that much it seems for such a small part there are other more economical methods.

/rant off

And yes, I know I'm being retarded, no need to point out the obvious to me.

And yes, of course I'll pay it. : )

A set of brake pads costs the same to ship - 7.4% of parts cost (about the same as taxes if bought locally, which I can't). Buy more stuff!!!

I'm with Stirz... your fault for only buying one item. Next time toss in a few more items and it will be a much more reasonable cost for shipping, but still cost you a lot more.

Option B - cut out 3-4 coffees @ Starbucks/Tullys/coffeeshophere - you'll come out ahead and save that $.

To be clear, I'm not flaming the OP or EBR at all. For a single "small" item, yeah, the percentage for shipping seems to be steep. In my case, I generally need stuff quick, so the convenience cost is acceptable for 3 day delivery. If they shipped USPS, cost would be less, but you might have to wait a couple of weeks to get your gizmos (or not at all - USPS priority shipping is less that what I'd call dependable in my experience).

I just bought a brake light for a cafe racer. Smoking deal at $18 shipped. But I have to wait a full month before it gets here from Hong Kong.

I wish they would have offered a $13 shipping option that would have gotten it here in a week.

$13 is just not enough money for me to rant about. I had to re-read the original post to see if I missed something.

giving Forerunner a hard time aside... I totally get it. I know that i'm a bit spoiled from getting an Amazon Prime acct.

"What i have to wait 5 WHOLE days to get it?!?!" AND IT COST ME 10$ to ship...

I'm spoiled. And when you shop at motorcycle superstore or others that have free shipping for anything over 99$ or 50$ or whatever... again $13 to ship?!?!

Reality hits when you try to send something to a friend or family just a state or two away. WTF is going on with the rates...

Lastly i'd gladly spend the extra 10-15$ to support EBR instead of getting the same part from HD (Surdyke, Local, etc.) - if it were available. I'll get dinged 10% at a local shop, or shipping most of the time anyway. At least i'm helping maximize the $ they get for that part. They are too small to eat the cost IMO. I'll cut out the couple coffees that week if it's an issue.

Nels- how much was your exhaust...hehehe! (i know since i have the same) giving you a hard time buddy!

Maybe they should just price the part at $113 with free shipping then ; )

the ebr mod rotor and the related parts was 75 shipping here to puerto rico. it wouldve been less than 20 via usps flat rate, as the box wasnt that big. im not complaining, they can use whoever they want to ship.

Guys, in my defense I did state in the original post that I was being retarded. The whole thing was meant to be tongue placed firmly in cheek but I still appreciate the ribbing. : )

I am fortunate in that the Cr isn't my primary means of transportation and have the luxury of waiting for this part so would not be opposed to a slower more economical shipping method.

And Rob, the exhaust was shipping included. lol :P

Forerunner, $13 to ship is high considering the size and weight of the part...but have you tried to ship something through UPS? Not cheap.

For example, I can ship using US Postal Service overnight service in a shoebox size container that weighs about 5 lbs. and pay $14.

So it's all relative. $13 is pocket change as far as I'm concerned. You can't even fill up your gas tank for that much!

What is YOUR shop rate? Few places can operate for less than $75 per hour if they're carrying both a manufacturing and R&D overhead...

How long does it then take to log the parts out of inventory, package them, label for shipping?

Add the direct labor cost to the UPS shipping charges and it's just not bad.

(and yeah, I did see the "retarded" disclaimer in the OP)

If labor was free... they could sell an 1190 for $20K and their streetbike for $5K

Wow. Such strong reactions to a lighthearted 'rant.'

@Danny, don't have the part yet. Been spending a lot of time on the X1 I picked up recently.

@Rogue, shipped several things through both FedEx and UPS w/pricing ranging from $12-22 depending on size/weight of box.

I doubt UPS can provide their level of service for anything less than $13. My commentary was only that it may not be the most efficient way to ship such a small part.

My guess is EBR is just passing on the UPS cost and not making anything off it.

Fedex ain't cheap (even a nearby home delivery costs me at least $10) and UPS is even more expensive. Presumably EB R ships more stuff than I do (I hardly ship anything) so they probably get a little better rate, but it's probably not huge.
