Hello all,

I just purchased a 2008 1125R on Sunday. This is my second Buell. My other one is a 2001 Buell X1 which I absolutely love. I wanted to get something that is better suited for the track and keep the X1 as my around town bike.

Since there is such a huge difference between the X1 and 1125R I took another Buell 1125R owner with me when I purchased the bike to help me inspect it. We noticed the the drive belt tracks away from the wheel about 1/4". We took the bike to his house and tried to figure out why the belt was tracking to the outside. As far as he knew it should be tracking towards the wheel. When you spin the wheel in reverse the drive belt tracks properly towards the wheel, but within 3 rotations forward the belt is tracks 1/4" towards the outside. The writing on the belt is facing towards you when you are looking at the bike so that should mean the belt is on correctly. We also tried a different 1125 wheel with a new sprocket and it did the same thing.

I did a search and it looks like this is a common occurrence with the 2008's and that it is considered normal.

My questions is, Has anyone figured out what is causing this and how it can be fixed? I don't want to have issues out on the track.

I'm thinking mine tracks to the wheel going forward, and off the sprocket in reverse. Even when it tracks off the sprocket, it never goes far enough to rub anything.

Mine tracks a about 1/4 off the sperocket going forward. I bought the bike with 14k miles like this and now have 25k miles with the same thing. No "issues" though. It was the first I noticed when checking the bike out but assumed I could fix it if it was "wrong."

That is the way that it is supposed to work but my belt tracks in the opposite direction.

Are the teeth of the belt at a slight angle to make it track one direction or another? Or what on the bike is at an angle that I could adjust the opposite direction to get my belt to track properly?

Same here. Before I got a rock threw my first belt (no break) it tracked fine with no gap. The replacement belt tracks about a 1/4" like the others. Eh, no issues from it in the end.

Could the belt be on backwards???

When you are looking at the side of the bike at the belt the Writing is right side up and legible. From what I understand this is correct.

Am I correct on this?

After I rotated my engine, the OEM belt tracked 1/4" to the left. Prior to the rotation it tracked true.

Go figure.

Still works fine though so I'll leave it alone.

a)standing on the kick stand side ( left side) , looking down, you should be able to read the printed info on the belt from left to right.
b) in the early days there were some hardware coming loose on the idler pulley - or came loose after someone changed the belt and failed to tighten the hardware correctly...it's not easy to get to as the muffler clamp is in the same area
c) rear wheel bearings, but since you have swapped wheels ( and pulleys) and have the same result ...I would check the idler pulley and associated hardware...hope this helps

Standing on the kickstand side looking down I can read the writing left to right.

I had the bike at the track yesterday and I had no issues with the belt. I'll continue to look into the tracking but I have not found any solutions yet.

the belt on my 1125r fits right up against the lip on the inside of the pulley. There is about 1/8" unused pulley remaining on the outside. My friend's CR is exactly the same way. FYI.

For those of you that have this issue what year is your bike? Is this a 2008 thing?

I am thinking about buying a tensioner pulley and arm from an '09 to see if it fixes the problem.
