http://encinitas.patch.com/articles/encintas-motor cycle-crash-leaves-one-dead#photo-11638721

I heard about this yesterday and just figured another Harley rider without gear ate it cruising the 101. But Damn the pics show a full face helmet and the car looks like it was hit hard. This is down town Encinitas with lots of pedestrians, bicycles and tourists. WTF

Sorry to post up the sad news, man I wish this shit didnt happen.

RIP

Todd

Yeah, that sucks.

The bike looks hardly damaged in the pic but the side of the car is really indented. I'm guessing that the rider laid the bike down and it missed the car, but he hit the car broadside.

Guess you figured wrong huh? Not all Harley, or any other brand rider for that matter rides without gear. Could easily be said for the ass hat squids riding in shorts and flip flops.

Pegs Down.

I think the bike is from the photographer or one of the other riders, there is no way that bike was in the accident. I wrecked going 15mph this summer and had to replace every single piece of plastic on mine.

Both mirrors broken off. Left handle bar destroyed, lots or rash on rear pillion. Don't think that's a bystander's bike.

quite an argument in divying up the blame as well. Sometimes I think half stories are worse than no story.

Hope if it was the Toyota's fault they get more than a ticket.

18 yo kid in pu pulls out in front of my moms neighbor killing him. no ticket issued. About 3 weeks later a semi gets in right lane to make left turn, guy I work with starts to go around semi on left. Semi turns into him killing him. No ticket issued. It's like its open field on bikers around here.

I didn't know the man so I won't say his name but someone on this forum did know him and this is the story from him. The rider was traveling and the car turned in front of the rider. The rider broad sided the car and went thru the back window of the car and landed inside the car in the back seat. The rider was wearing all the proper gear and speed was not a factor just, blunt trama. RIP and my prayers go out to his wife and family and friends for this tragic accident.

Either way, this is a tragedy! I'm certain that no one involved wanted this to occur. My thoughts and praters go out to all those involved and their loved ones.

"The police report blames the Camry driver. The report states that three motorcyclists riding in a staggered lineup were headed south on Highway 101 when a 69-year-old Camry driver pulled out directly in front of the motorcyclists as he was making a left turn from K Street. No mention of running stop signs or excessive speed by any motorcyclists."

maybe the bike pictured was one of the other two?

Sounds like some dip$hit not paying attention in the camry took this guys life.

"The Driver of the Camry was stopped at a stop sign and proceeded to drive into oncoming traffic"

This one makes more sense. Damage to the Camry was on the driver's side and quite extensive.

Bottom line: Just 'cause it's on the internet don't make it true or accurate. It's like the weather: Wait around long enough and you'll get another version.

Sad event regardless.

Sadly, the rider killed was Austin Smithers, one of our very active SCAB riders and good friend of ours. He just got that 1125 to be a track bike and was putting the break-in miles on it in prep for his first track day in a couple weeks. His fiance Vanessa had recently got a Ninja250, and Joanne and I have been doing local rides with Austin and Vanessa to get the gals skills up for longer more technical SCAB rides.

Austin was one of the good guys, as nice a guy as you'll ever meet. He had been riding until recently without much gear, but had changed his ways and had acquired all the right stuff. He was wearing it all when the accident occurred, but sometimes ATGATT still isn't enough.

RIP Austin, you will be missed. : (

Damn, my little trip over the handlebars looks like it caused more damage than that. R.I.P. Brother.
