I have a 2008 1125r that has a 2010 motor due to a warranty issue. The last few days I have noticed the bike making more noise than normal. It sounds like its coming from the stator and seems more like a rattle type of noise. Has anyone elses stators made weird noises before crapping out. I havent gotten the battery light yet and the bike when running is at around 13.2 volts. The battery checked ok when tested but the bike is still hard to get started but rides ok once started.

The new motor has 4500 miles on it and also had the harness update. I do not think it has the relay though. I remember seeing pics on here of guys that had the relay and they had an extra gray male and female plug that bypassed the old plugs. Is this right I seen it on a youtube video.
I an just wondering if this is the starting stages of it going out.

I also have an ebr ecm and dont know if this has any effect on this situation.

I just wanted to see everyones thoughts on this and where I should start to fix what ever the problems is.

It sounds like it could be the rotor nut. It should be checked and torqued to 300 ft lbs

EBR has said the rotor nut is not reusable if it has come loose. May want to buy a new one to be on the safe side.

Your bike has an 08. Those have the lower output stators that are not known to fail. It also shouldn't have the upgrade harness/relay either, so your findings sound appropriate.

+2 on Rotor Nut.

You can't (well shouldn't) have the harness update without the relay though as the relay is what makes it work.

The harness update is a sub-loom that does (as you surnmise) connect to the grey connector at the rear of the tank, it loops out to the relay connector then back to another grey connector that goes tot eh VR..

Thanks for the info guys I think I am going to try and beat a dead horse and ask my dealer why they decied not to install the relay with the new harness and see what they tell me.

Engine noise is the problem you should have the dealer work promptly before it becomes an outrageous expense. If it is due to a loose rotor nut, that can be fixed easily by following the procedure in the '10 Service Manual.

Are you sure it has the Upgrade Harness? Doesn't make sense for the dealer to install the Upgrade Harness and not the Relay.

If you trace the wires from the Stator to the Voltage Regulator, there should be a part of the harness that goes to a 1" square plug on the harness under the seat. That's where you'll find the Relay. If it is missing there would be empty blade contacts visible on the plug.
