I have an early '08 1125R which has the stiffer fork springs, part number J8113.1AMA, I believe. I bought the later, softer fork springs, part number J8113.1AMB but never installed them. I've got my forks apart to change the seals and have the stiffer springs side-by-side with the softer ones. The softer ones are about two inches longer than the stiffer ones.

I assumed that the spacer for the softer springs would be shorter, but when I checked the part number for the spacers, it is J8135.1AMA. Since the last four digits are 1AMA instead of 1AMB (like the spring), that makes me think that the J8135.1AMA is the first revision of the spacer--IE the one that is designed to go with the stiffer springs. I Googled for J8135.1AMB, but it does not exist, implying that there was never a second revision of the spacer.

It seems pretty clear that if I try to install the softer, taller springs with the same size spacer, the preload will be a lot greater, probably too much. In the old days of standard forks, I would have just cut the spacers so that the fork spring would have almost no preload when the fork was assembled, with the preload adjuster backed off all the way. But inverted forks have the spring under a lot of preload even when the preload adjuster is backed off all the way, so I don't think I'd be safe just "guessing" how much of the spacer to remove.

I may just reassemble the forks with the stock springs, but I'd really like to give the lighter ones a try. What do you guys think about the spring size differences?

Here is the parts diagram for the fork, originally posted by Froggy.

I searched for J8135.1AMA again and this time I found part number J8135.02A8 on cyclepartsforless.com and it says that it supercedes J8135.1AMA. I'm guessing that it's the right spacer for the softer springs. Since it's only $4.20 each, I ordered a pair of them along with the right fork lower and fork bushing that I need to fix my leaky fork seal problem.

I too am looking to replace the overly stiff fork springs on my '08 1125R. I've run out of adjustments and it's still too stiff for my 167 lbs weight.

So the softer springs are = J8113.1AMB
And the spacers that go with it are = J8135.02A8

Those spring part numbers are correct but I am not sure about the spacers. I'll update once I've received the parts.

I'm 220lbs in gear and even with the preload backed out all the way, the zip tie on my fork tube stays close to an inch from the bottom.

I think I saw somewhere (Racetech's site?) that the early '08 springs are 1.0kg/mm and the later, softer ones are .95kg/mm. Not positive though.

I have my stock 09 cr springs in a box along with the stock spacers. Would you like me to measure the spacer? I changed to the race tech springs and had to cut new spacers, because the racetech springs are so much shorter than stock.

Rederider, sure, measure them if you have a chance. I'll measure my early '08 spacers too. Thanks!

9.65 inches, that's without the plastic bushings. 245.11 mm

The spacers from my early '08 are 10 7/8 inches long, not including the plastic bushing. The bushing is about 3/8 inches, for a total of 11 1/4 inches.
