Hey everyone. Followed this forum for a long time, and now a member. So i went for about a 100 mile ride this past weekend and at my last break my 08 1125r died like i was trying to take off in to high of a gear. It started right back up and i was able to get home. As I was pulling in my drive the cluster lost power, and it died. I turned the on and off several times and the cluster kept going on and off. Checked the battery cables because i just changed the battery, and they were tight. Could it be the cluster? Ive got 12,500 miles on it. I haven't done a lot of digging into the issue yet. Just looking for a place to start. Thanks! |

do a search on grounds and or ground wires and ignition switch...they can be a problem. a) Grounds up by the "headstock" can become loose or disconnected- it seems that is the "common meeting place" for the grounds up front. b) there is a problem with the ignition switch wires and the fairing mount (lack of clearance) especially when you turn the bars "lock to lock" - it can be fixed but you need to know how to solder ( the wires break off or come loose from the "circuit board" in the switch)... there is a post in the forum either zac4mac or froggy added with pictures...good luck |

I've had *two* clusters "flicker out" on me in the last couple of weeks on two different bikes. Basically, the bike works perfectly, the tach reads correctly, etc., but the LCD display is intermittent, and mostly just blank. It's lit, but blank. As they are track bikes, I'm now wondering if it's even worth fixing them, since I've had this same issue before a couple of times, too. I think track life just shakes these things out of order and they develop cold solder joints or something internally. |
