I have a cold start issue. When the bike is cold, it can go through a period of long cranking with no start or it spits, sputters and then dies. In my testing, the battery is good as well as electrical connectors to starter. I read in the diagnostic info and the engine rpms must be over 450 before spark is initiated. Using ecmspy, I certified that during my long crack with out start, my rpms peaked at 435. After my cleaning of connectors and testing, I would constantly hit a min of 475 rpms. Can someone who has a well functioning bike who has ecmspy, unplug their injectors and crank motor for about 5-8 seconds and tell me their max rpms?

Interesting... that would explain some of my winter starting issues in the extreme cold.

Sadly, I don't have ecmspy yet.

Define "cold".

Are you using the proper weight oil for the temperatures?

Bike gourd in the shop tomorrow. Still under service contract. Did more testing today. My testing ask far leads me to believe that my issue is a cold starter issue.so my next test was to take a cold bike and heat the starter without cranking the bike or turning on the ignition before hand. Used a heating gun, warmed the starter. Worked like a champ started right up

I'm not sure if I am getting the same issue as you or not. But when I start my bike when its cold, it takes about 2-3 tries recently. Most of the time, I can hear it crank and nothing happens. The other times, it starts up then sputters and dies.

Also, If I happen to be in gear, when I try to start, the bike would lunge forward slightly similar to a stall.

Guys at local harley sure confirmed that it does need a starter. Parts take about a week to get here. Will up date all of you in the rpm change with the starter. The khat test I did before taking the bike to them was to warm the starter with a heat gun prior to start attempt. It fired right up
