just picked up a new ballistic 12cell bettery, the web site recomended the 16cell, but clearence pushed me toward the 12. Cranking amps are 410 much higher than the stock hd unit. installation required som fabrication of foam packaging to get the factory strap to hold it in place. paid 189 at a non harley bike shop. start up after install was hell, fuel pr system error messages, i think it was flooded. the only numbers on the old bettery were 1007 with quite a few more digits. Was that an October 2007 battery/ original? also should i be concerned with parisitic drain, its an 08 1125r with no accesories added? either way im using the kill switch when off, but im concerned if this battery drops to 6v supposedelly its toast?

BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE BALLISTIC.

There are very susceptible to parasitic drain. My stock battery lasted 5 years.

Ballistic battery number 1 lasted 1.5 weeks
Ballistic battery number 2 lasted 2.5 Hours
Ballistic battery number 3 will not happen!

I went back to a AGM for the time being.

Both ballistics are on their way back to the product development president for testing.

The only thing added to my bike are some LED's that when on draw less than 1.5 amps per hour.

In both cases, both batteries show no voltage at all.

My Ballistic 12-cell lasted <2 weeks with a Tender.

YMMV,

Careful with the tender.
Be SURE that Ballistic states that their cells are safe to be used with a tender. Some are NOT.

I was looking at the Shorai 12 cell (or maybe newer 16 cell). They have a smart charger that you can have a tender hookup (to a central terminal which can balance cells - not just the battery posts).

I still have my stock battery in my 09. Using a batteryminder it's been great (great intelligent charger - not a battery tender POJ). Still cranks strong w/o issues. Only hook it up if i'm not going to ride for several days.

I'll avoid the Ballistics. Thx!!

fyi, i called deltran bettery tender and they said tenders are only compatible with the shoria lithium , but later called ballistic and they assured me the teneders were acceptable, got a tender and plugged it in, just under 1 hr to go from red to float fullcharge mode, they say batteries come fully charged by ive never believed it. ill monitor charging times for a while and plan to use the tender once per week

I believe ballistic has their own charger also, to monitor each cell as it's charging/balancing the power of each cell. I wonder if Deltran's Tender is actually charging each cell and not overcharging some of them when charging.

I am probably wrong, but that is how I can see why some of the EVO2's have failed.

well i called ballistic on the phone, and rather than push me toward their 10 dollar more expensive charger or their cell equalizing one they said the tender was fine. and yes their 89 dollar charger does cell equilazation but uses the funky plug in between the terminals and displays other important battery info, but the plug would just be inconvienent for me

If you were to balance the cells about every 4 months. A Lithium Phosphate battery should last in excess of 5 years. The balancers are worth it. But with the experience ive been having with the Ballistics im a bit skeptical of them right now for motorcycles.
