My weed eater was a noisy, smoky non-emissions compliant device. I use an electric weed eater now--silence is golden. I remember Bultacos were the quietest of the MX bikes. Those Evinrudes are really quiet and no smoke at all. | ||

Bultacos quiet? I had a '67 Pursang and '76 Astro. I don't remember anything quiet about them. But, I also had a '74 Frontera with the bazooka can that was really quiet. They all were great bikes, light with power. | ||

OK, Astros were dirt track and I should've said mid-seventies stock Buls and not just MX! The enduros were the quietest of all 2-strokes--this side of Trials bikes. One thing about them was the smooth, controllable power. In reality all of the European bikes I rode had incredibly smooth power--my 82.5 Husky 500CR is sooo fast, yet totally controllable! | ||

I think EBR could get a jump on everybody else and produce a 2-stroke, street legal, wicked fast and emissions complaint..IMHO and maybe a far-fetched thought. | ||

hmm court hasnt shut this idea down yet....MUST STILL BE HOPE!!! Ive always been a 4stroke kinda guy...but man some of the 2 strokes ive ridden were AMAZING!!! And if they could make it work it really is a vastly better design than the comparable 4 Jake | ||

A KDX or KX with an FMF Q series is nice and quiet. The most obnoxious sounding bikes are the loud four strokes. You can hear those stupid things for over a mile.  | ||

My RD 400 has been sadly missed since I sold it. I had no inclination to ever buy a new bike, however, I would definatley buy a two stroke new. | ||

I think, quite possibly, EBR will want to refine the package he has right now to make it more competitive and sell bikes. Also maybe a race version in limited production and a street version for mass production.....and then spread to other platforms while still keeping the basic chassis & engine at least for now until he has more "racing" capital. I also think we might see some of his engineering in smaller road and dirt bikes from Hero. At any rate it IS a great time coming for EBR and all of us who love our Buells. | ||

Hey Robs a great guy. He let me help work on his 1190 at Daytona  . Besides the new EBR will come complete with a macerator in the intake scoop for those slow Yamahas that get in the way at the track, and a direct neural input connector that will make those 100K electronics packages obsolete. Ben Spies 2014 WSB champion on an EBR. In 2015 they will let him use the race bike instead of the pit bike. The new bike will not have an "engine" it will be powered by a "will be/was" drive. You can be on the podium before the race starts. The energy source will be 100% organic carrot juice. Ok...silly enough now??  | ||

OK Court, who is Jeremy Ricker and why is he so important to this discussion? I did a search and found two posts where you cite his name. The first was last year with no other information. The second was not long ago and you were talking about him letting you ride his Gama (whatever that is). So, what does this guy have to do with the 1190? | ||

Look up Suzuki RG500 Gamma, both the race and street models. Square-four rotary-valve two stroke, sold in Canada but not U.S. Very bad-ass. Makes our 1125's seem sensible-like. | ||

Duggram- look at the link at my post above. On an old internet forum, Jeremy Ricker apparently successfully predicted the bike that was the M2 well before it came out. Quoting Court: "Ricker did about 1,000 word tretise on how they should leverage the good handling frame but bring some of the parts into line with "good enough", reflecting most riders abilities, and lower the price. He suggested Showa shocks, a longer more comfy seat and went on to almost define the still undercover M2 Cyclone. " Take that and apply it to the 1190RS. | ||

Hahahaha . . . A+ on the homework lesson. Jeremy Ricker nailed it . . . so much that he got me (as some of the folks at HD incorrectly assumed I'd spilled the beans) in a lot of hot water. The bikes, the ones you and I will buy, have been done for quite some time. Tested, retested and well sorted. Erik and the Elves have a keen sense of where the market is and where it's going. I think they have gloriously translated those consumer concepts and engineering possibilities onto two wheels. You folks, for the most part, have done a masterful job, as we all endure the POTW (pain of the wait), of sizing up what's coming. The less accurate assumptions are based on the improper assumption that for some odd reason Erik, EBR or anyone is striving to get back where Buell Motorcycle Company was. . . 'taint so. More like, striving to get to where they would have been unconstrained. Compromises are not in the cards, neither is half baked. No one "has" to roll something out to meet a Harley-Davidson social events calendar and no one has to engineer something in a manner that won't dilute Sportster sales. The common goal, and engineering marching orders, is to do the absolute best they can. Assume you could do anything and were constrained by nothing . . . what would you engineer, what would you build, how would it advance a viable business model? Most has presumed far too much and widely inaccurate things related to the HERO association, the Rotax motor particulars and the range of what's possible. . . most are constrained, locked in a mental box, of what Buell Motorcycle Company used to look like and making assumptions based on that. In doing so, many have overlooked the current activity right under their nose. I, frankly, have been somewhat surprised that, as the Rotax, HERO, HD and BRP dialogues rage, that no one has asked . . . ."hey, wait. . . . if 40+ of the best engineers in the industry are working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for the past 25 months . . where is the output? There MUST be something going somewhere . . ." Perhaps . . . . like Paul Ryan's successful escape through the woods to meet Romney, as the Press was assembled in front of his house, we've been watching the wrong door. These are truly the most exciting times in the history of Buell. Erik, the Elves and everyone involved at every step are collectively at the peak of their creativity, innovation and engineering careers. The are the most emotionally, physically, creatively and collectively fit that they have ever been. It's thrilling, each time I set foot in the plant, to see the new faces showing up as the "Dream Team" grows. These are indeed exciting times. Yep. . . . Jeremy Ricker nailed it. While the world was talking Titanium, Turbos and Warp Drive . . . Erik and the Elves developed a perfect bike for the very folks who actually bought and rode real world motorcycles. I'm excited. | ||

By the way . . . it WAS Jeremy's Gamma 500 I rode that day in the forest roads outside Portland. I've got all the photos someplace. It was the old "DTFR" club (a group of Intel Engineers who were primarily Triumph riders who'd been infiltrated with a couple S2s) and we were on one of the outing we used to hold when I'd go to Latus every couple months. The Gamma, which has nothing to do with this thread or anything you'll ever see from EBR, was one of the bikes that made a serious attempt to join me and my maker. I was riding along, listening the the ding-ding-ding that sounded like a chain saw . . . thinking "what's all the fuss about? As I wicked the throttle a bit more . . .like a blinding light the Gamma came alive and damn near jumped out from under me. It was then that I got my Ph.D in what "power band" really means. . . . this thing was gone like a shot. Followed shortly by my first lesson in what it's like to have a 1980's bike with 1950's brakes. I missed the tree. . . . gingerly rode back to where Jeremy was waiting, swapped back to my S1 and told him "nice bike". Whew. | ||
