My mechanic just called me and said that something is missing from the back of the rotor that keeps it from turning one way and engaging when the starter is turned. What is this? Are we missing something? Please help, this bike has been down for a month and I thought it was going to be fixed.

It's called a starter sprag. It cost me 2 weeks wait and $750 at the dealer to replace mine.

now he is saying that there is something that goes between the rotor and the freewheeling gear. Am I missing a part?

go here: you may have the same issue...go all the way back into the archive (pix):

the mechanic may have put the one way (sprag) clutch together the wrong way (missing the "ramp rollers") or installed it "backwards" on the rotor (it spins free when the starter is engaged and locks up when spun back wards?)...if I'm understanding your post correctly...good luck

so the part that goes on the rotor with the six bolts is the sprag clutch? this is what I will need? would it have been not put back on at EBR?

good question...but did you (or your mechanic) remove it before you sent your rotor to EBR for (I assume) the upgrade (drilling/machining the oiling hole)?...if not - EBR may still have it??? - it's a race weekend (Laguna Seca MotoGP & AMA) - you may find it hard to contact EBR until some one get's back from the left coast.

Just talked to Danny and he said that he's going to look for it It wasn't removed prior to sending it to EBR. Fingers crossed he has it!
