Hey everyone,

I was thinking of doing some stuff to my bike like removing the passenger pegs, the belt guard, rear hugger, putting a fender eliminator on, etc. Then eventually putting on the barker exhaust, some black stationary footpegs, maybe some other stuff.

The point would be to make the bike look more "stripped down", "street fighter-ish", "aggressive" if you catch my drift.

I would like to know people's thoughts on the pros and cons of removing the belt guard and rear hugger, like if it makes the bike more prone to damage and stuff.

Thanks.

I removed the lower belt guard on mine. I'd say it definitely increases the chances of getting a rock jammed between the belt and pulley, but I couldn't stand the looks of the bike with the guard on.

You're worried about getting a rock jammed in your belt ........... I got a Suzuki Swift jammed between my rear wheel and the seat subframe on Sunday ...that far in it left it's paint on both passenger heel guards :-(

My lower belt guard would rub on hard lefts on the dragon. So intstead of it rubbing against the belt and pulley, ill take the risk of a rock

I am at 11k+ miles with no lower belt guard on original belt no problems yet, it used to rub on the belt and it looks better without it IMO.
I left the upper one on because it looks fine and probably protects the belt from UV ray damage when it sits in the sun.

I pulled all the belt guards off my CR and also had them off on my 9R. Got to get rid of those factory mirrors too.

Rizoma Red Lux grips
Imberger Swingarm protectors

It does look better without belt guards. Anyone take their rear hugger off?

Yes thanks Danny ..........no injuries to myself or passenger as we both stayed on board ...... we couldn't move the bike at all until he reversed back off us so the bike couldn't even fall over somehow the front of the car went between the wheel and rear subframe wiping out the number plate and bracket on the way..... cracked the indicators and wiped out the side reflectors and left it's paint on the rear of both pillion heel guards which sit forward of the rear axle ....... bikes going in to be checked next week as i suspect it's slightly tweaked the rear subframe. I think the ventura rack saved the rest of the undertray etc. Still gutted though as i plan to keep it longterm so hope there's no hidden damage .

Unless you like a strip up your back, I'd leave the hugger on... or you live in Phoenix...

Belt guards are easier to drop but environment may trump style.

Ros, all I can say is Nice Bike!
