So I did the entire stator/rotor change out a while back and am seeing some interesting charging numbers, trying to figure out if anything is wrong or just a combination of heat and the 08 system.

With the 08 setup being a lower output what should the ac read directly from the stator? I know a 09 should be between 45-55. I'm getting consistent readings of 35-40 from all 3 legs

I did the same change and yes, lower charging numbers on the instrument read-out but seems to be working fine. I don't run any extra electric crap though.

I don't run anything additional either. Did find that the negative terminal was a little loose.

Anyone with an 08 electrical manual that can give the spec for ac output would be appreciated.

disconnect connector [77] at 3000 RPM AC output should be 35-40 volts AC At terminals 1-2, 2-3, 1-3 if you need more info PM me with your phone # I will call you I am a slow typer. Thats from the 08 diagonstic manual I saw another post where there was a change 35-45 volts

Im glad i found this post as i was going to start a thread asking the same question. I purchased my bike used last summer with 3,500 miles & the famed recall harness already installed.
After replacing another melted relay this past weekend (4th one so far this summer) i discovered the bike was not charging so it prompted me to test the stator. It passed on all three legs with only .1 resistance but it only puts out 38-40 volts at 3000rpm instead of 45-55v that the 2009 manual says is normal so i thought it was on it's way out.
After looking at the stator cover i found markings on the bolts indicating that a socket has been put to every single one of them. What i am assuming(or hoping)is that the previous owner has installed a 2008 stator on my 2009 bike which explains the lower AC readings.
It turns out that there was melted plastic lodged in one of the harness contacts causing it not to make contact so now it charges again. I decided to disconnect the harness completely and it charges alot better. What i am wondering is if i should leave it disconnected and take my chances that the bike has been converted.
Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you.

Did you take any pics of the stator when it was apart? The 08 and 09 are visibly different, not least evidenced by the number of poles...

08 stator has 18 poles. 09 has 12 poles

Thank you for the info as that's exactly what i was wondering, what the physical difference in appearance was. I did not own the bike when the stator was replaced so i dont have any pics yet.

The next step is to get out the manual, remove the stator cover and count the poles. I imagine i will need to at least get a gasket but hopefully no special tools since all i will be doing is inspecting it at this point.
