I have a lot of fun building my project bikes, but at the end of the day, they are projects and I'm not exactly comfortable hopping on one to ride 1000 miles. I wanted to get a good reliable bike next year, but decided not to wait.

Here she is: 2009 Buell 1125CR 3k miles and all stock

Always loved these bikes, so very happy to get one! Got the one with the high bars rather than the clubmans, I'm glad I did too. I got the bike at a place in Reno NV, which is about 8hrs from where I live. So I drove down there with my Dad, got the bike Friday afternoon, spent the night and rode back the 430 miles on Sat.
For the record my back is really sore today.
Bike rode fantastic all the way back though, although midway through the trip the hydraulic clutch sleeve started leaking like a sieve. Apparently very common on these, so I've got the revised EBR part on the way already. Other than that it's everything I want in a bike and I'm super stoked.
Lots of torque and great power. Going through Hwy 199 which is a very twisty river road it was super flickable and handled fantastic. It's by far the easiest bike to ride fast I've ever had. It's funny, the power is actually very linear on the bike, I think I expected it to be a lot more barbaric, but the whole bike is far more refined than I gave it credit for, which is funny because I was almost let down by how civil it is!

Here's a couple pictures with its brothers:

It's too bad my chop is apart right now otherwise I'd have included that one too : )

Thanks for looking!

Congrats on a great bike. I wish you luck but I've owned mine since it had 750 miles on the clock and "reliable" is the last word I would use to describe my CR.

I guess that depends on the previous bikes you've had anyway ; )

A lot of bikes are reliable when compared to a 30 year old machine.

Is the bike on the left an old 650-twin in an SV frame?
My first "big bike" was a 1972? TX-650.
Stripped it and rode it coast to coast a couple of times.
Fun times in Frisco

Yeah it's an xs650, but the frame is my own design. I changed the engine to fuel injection and turbocharged it. : ) It's an interesting ride for sure.

You've probably figured this out already, but just to say it, get your rotor modded with the oil hole NOW and maybe your stator will survive. Have fun, and that 650 looks like crazy!

Congrats! Pay attention to the recall issues and the necessary upgrades and you should really enjoy her. Welcome to the small yet faithful.

I had not actually heard about the oil hole for the rotor, I'll research that now. Thanks!

Hey Phlegm, That would be awesome. Any chance you were thinking of going to the Laguna Seca Moto GP next year?
I already took my motorcycle trip this year going to Infineon for the AMA races, but next year my brother-in-law and I are already planning to go back to Laguna again. I went in '08 and '11, need to get back for '13. We are planning on leaving on thursday morning and attending all three days. We'll ride right through Eureka on our way down 101 if you want to join up.

Congratulations. I loved seeing the build come alive on the XS, and hope you work some magic with the CR.

Hah, so I decided that waiting until monday for the revised part to show up from EBR isn't going to be good enough. So I took the clutch cover in to work today (I'm a transmission tech at a chevy/dodge dealer) popped the old sleeve out and took a look. Noticed quite a few impressions and slight grooves that could be causing it not to seal properly (On the initial ride home fluid was literally squirting out of the weep hole when the clutch was depressed). Took some emery cloth and sanded it smooth, cleaned all the surfaces and reinstalled the sleeve. Bled the clutch and it's working great! : )
Not a permanent fix obviously, but it'll hold me over until the new part gets here on Monday, I just really wanted to get back out and ride. Man, this thing is a beast! Loving every minute of it so far.
