Since I last posted, I replaced a fuel pressure switch based on a code that came up (P0087) that was causing the bike to lose power after 6K RPM. Since then I've been to another track day and the bike ran fine for 2 sessions just as before and on the third session, it acted up again with the CEL coming on again. This time I continued to ride it, short shifting at 6k and after 2 laps it was OK again. The fourth session it acted up and after a half lap was OK. I wouldn't think a fuel pump would act this way. I hate to buy one based on this. Even bad fuel, clogged filter, etc. wouldn't make sense to me. Anybody have a similar experience? The bike is only used for track days, so I don't have any street experience with it. Does it need to have the TPS reset after replacing the fuel pressure sensor? | ||

Yes, reset the TPS. Sounds like the ECM management isn't allowing (sometimes) the injector(s) to get a bigger squirt. Check your connectors at the ECM too. Make sure all the pins are seated. | ||

P0087 is basically a low fuel pressure code. my bike had the same symptoms as you are describing plus when sitting in traffic it would stall and not start for 15 or so minuets. after that, as long as i was moving (below 6k rpm) the bike ran great. after taking it to the dealer 5 times and them telling me nothing was wrong i diagnosed it as the fuel pump. explained to the dealer what i had found they replaced it and its ran great since. the troubleshooting for the P0087 in the Elec manual is garbage its not set up for intermittent issues. you need to find a way to monitor your fuel pressure while it is acting up. i unhooked my speed sensor and watched it in diag mode when ridding around. | ||
