after my bike gets warm and i'm on the freeway going between 70-90 the speedo will just say "0" and "-" for the gear. after about 5 minutes of this the check engine light will come on saying "v speed sys err" p0503. there is also another code p0087 fuel pr sys err. any thoughts? do they go together? it is going back to harley on wednesday for this same problem. i'm hoping i can tell them how to fix it since they aren't use to working on something so "hi tech".

Interesting, I JUST had the same experience with the speedo, but no codes or MIL. I was on surface streets so speeds were much lower. When I pulled in the clutch the speedo would indicate actual speed, as soon as I let it engage it would return to 0.

Mine just did that last week. Happened first when I short shifted into 6th it didn't go into gear I pulled the clutch reshifted into 6th and my speedo and gear indicator came back. But it did do it again about 5 min later the no speedo or gear. No codes and it has not done it since

Heat related. Ride it.

Mine did that, all but the codes, and they replaced the IC, that didn't cure the problem, so the replaced the speed sensor. Problem solved. hasn't happened since.

heat related to the sensor i think. the 1190rs actually has a heat shield over the sensor...

I believe it's heat related, just surprised it could happen so soon after start up. I am admittedly riding slow right now, but the disappearing speedo trick happened soon after the "COLD" stopped flashing and I rode away from the house. I was less than 4 miles from home with one roughly mile stretch of 50+ road in the route, and then on to about a 1 mile of surface road cruising when the speedo decided to do its two mode trick.
