OK, it was hot as hell down here in central Texas today, well over 100F. On the instrument cluster: ambient temp peak=120F, coolant temp peak=223F (mostly distilled water with Water Wetter).

On today's commute on the trusty '08 1125R (stock exhaust, EBR ECM) the extra hot air wafting over my header pipes actually melted the glue of my right boot's sole!

When I got off the bike, I noticed the mostly detached sole flapping on the pavement like the parched exposed tongue of some poor critter with no shade.

These aren't cheap boots, to boot. Sidi Vertigo Corsas, only a couple years old.

Anyone recommend a fix? Tuff Toe? Super high temp sole adhesive (indeed, is there such a thing?) ?

In Oregon; I have a waterproof sidi, the left side isn't. taped off the leather to rubber seam, using clear adhesive out of caulk gun type cartridge. Filled in the gappage with a tooth pick. I forgot about Gorilla Glue!

Could a shoe repair shop stitch it up in some way?

I've had success with Shoe Goo (I think that's what it's called). It sticks well and is flexible. I can't attest to it's high temperature capabilities but I'd give it a try.

I live in Austin so I am also subjected to the heat you describe - 110F yesterday as reported by my wife from the car thermometer. When it's this hot it's like riding in a freakin' hair dryer. And, when stopped in Austin traffic, the extra heat coming off the 1125 engine combined with ambient is truly something to behold. I'm like to burst into flames.

I have to confess to parking the CR and riding my SV when it's over 95. The SV produces much less engine heat.

I had a boot melt once during a start. The exhaust made it look like a Dali sculpture or something, and my foot was HOOOOT for a about a lap! I learned to keep that boot on the peg for starts after that!

i have an old pair of AGV 's with the boot "heel cup" glued up to the boot with Gorilla Glue...GGlue is not flexible...it expands as it drys - you have to trim away the excess to make a "clean" repair.
Permatex and 3m make automotive type gasket sealers/trim adhesive.
3m stuff:

permatex stuff:
http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/automo tive_gasketing/gasket_makers/auto_permatex_ultra_c opper_maximum_temperature_rtv_silicone_gasket_make r.htm

since the area you need to fix is "flexing" - I would try the the permatex stuff...it needs to be clean and dry and a good clamping force helps it stay secure after the rtv "drys" - I would set it out in that Texas heat for couple of days clamped good and tight...good luck

I would first, contact Sidi, and tell them about the problem....You might get lucky. I have two pair and they are bullet proof. (Does not mean I have not already destroyed one pair.), or drop by your local shoe repair shop. My local shoe shop got me a year or so extra out of a couple of older pairs of boots. Good luck.

Guys,

Thanks for all the input...

Dannybuell: stitching might work, indeed.

Pwillikers: LOL about the bursting into flames. Your words echoed in my mind the next day, when Ambient Temp was displayed as 134F on the IC

Jdugger: I usually keep my right foot on the rear brake at stoplights (habit to avoid warping the front rotor). I think that's what did me in... a couple of long traffic lights during rush hour.

Nuts4mc: I happen to have some permatex around, might consider using it.

Black: never thought about calling Sidi, but who knows... maybe it's one of those companies which actually stands by its products. I went through Motonation.

I would definitely contact Motonation first, let them run it through their distribution rep

They will have more clout to deal with Sidi than you will.

Won't hurt to contact Sidi as well, run dual paths and see if either gets results
