a)it's an 08 - do you turn it off with the "kill switch" ....or did the dealer upgrade your Inst Cluster?? ( new ICs (09) display what gear you're in) - ('08)they been known to drain the batt...if you DONT'T use the kill switch on the original 2008 Inst Cluster
b)how old is the batt?...how tight are the batt terminal connections??
c)how tight are the grounds...check the batt ground where it goes to a stud near the swing arm pivot (10mm hex nut)...check the bundle of wires (black?) terminating up by the steering head
d)Pull the seat - how tight is the VR mounted to the sub-frame...it needs to be tight to help it dissipate heat
e) Pull the seat -look at the big connector from the stator to the VR ( Yellow wires) - does it look burned or discolored? - check to make sure the pins are tight and clean ( not burned from arcing)...good luck

Thanks for all the suggestions. Its 08, know about the switch. Battery is good & terminals & grounds are tight. The only thing I found was the yellow wires to the VR connector is slightly cooked. Yet everything is working now. Took it for a 35 mile ride and no issues. What could it be?? Thanks again.
