I have a 2010 motor in my CR, does the 2010 motor have the new torque spec on the rotor nut(basically did it get torqued to 300 ft-lbs at the factory), or do i need to get a new rotor nut and torque it to 300 ft-lbs, and apply red loctite of course? |

WTF would you use red (271) loctite? That requires heating the parts to 500 F to remove My 2008 manual specifies Loctire 648, green. http://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex?sku=0150376 I'm seeing too many people thinking red = stronger, and totally ignoring that it requires high temperature to remove. Just had a friend use red on her front brake rotors...... (Message edited by sprintst on June 15, 2012) (Message edited by sprintst on June 15, 2012) |

i'd think that the 2010 motor should be good to go. and i was told to use the red stuff on the rotor nut by someone i really trust on these topics |

Because that's what EBR suggested. And since they engineered the bike, I think I will listen to them. |

Can anybody confirm that the 2010 engines have the proper torque speq from the factory? |

Because that's what EBR suggested. And since they engineered the bike, I think I will listen to them Oh, but as we've been told countless times, EBR has nothing to do with our 1125R/CR's. They didn't engineer a thing There is *nothing* that is the same (despite EBR buying an 1125 engine from rotax - hey, I wonder if it's still got "Buell" cast into the front of the block) } (Message edited by sprintst on June 15, 2012) |

272 is the correct loctite to use. |

What's the manufacturing date on your bike? |

Sprinst, your 2008 manual was right when they printed it, but it's wrong now. The torque specification was changed in 2009. Don't use the old values, and don't use 648. The new spec is 300 ft-lb with Loctite 272. |

TB - I knew the torque spec changed, that's why I was sure to put that it's the 2008 manual. Thx on the loctite update |

Timebandit, Do you know if they started torquing the rotor nut to 300ft-lbs at the factory in 2009? |

It would really help to know the production date on your motor. Whoever put that 2010 motor in your bike should have the answer available to them. I know when in 2009 the Buell spec was changed for the 2010 model year, including the dates that the final changes were committed to the Buell service manual, but I don't know anything about Rotax production dates. I'm thinking that all the 2010 motors should have the updated spec, but I can't guarantee anything. The easiest way to be sure you've got the latest torque spec is to just pop off the ignition cover and look at the Loctite on the rotor nut. If it's red, you're good to go. If it's dark green, you need to do the service. Popping off the ignition cover to peek at the nut and putting it back on should only take about 10-15 minutes. Then you'll have the definitive answer. |
