So the title pretty much says it all. I replace the stator after the original crispy fried itself. (custom rewind did a great job on the new one thanks!) Everything works, battery charges, except there is no neutral light... Neutral exists no problem, right where it should be. On start-up the gauges cycle and the neutral light turns on, but later while riding or even just sitting, engine on or off, no light. Any ideas of some wire i might have not reconnected or inadvertantly disconnected? | ||

The neutral switch is located right under the stator cover. Could be that maybe it was not connected back. Also check if maybe it was damaged (the switch is made out of plastic). Check for leaks as well. The switch is threaded into the engine case and sometimes it likes to get loose. Don't over tighten it otherwise you will strip the plastic threads. Use tape thread gasket when re-installing. Worse case scenario you have to replace it (cost is like 20 something dlls). | ||

awesome thank you. under as in below right? not like on the other side (inside) the cover. I dont recall any plastic things being unscrewed to remove the cover but im going right out to check. | ||

Sorry you are right. Still working on my english. It is below it. It is not screwed to the cover. It's screwed into the engine case. | ||

when i read the title to the thread i was going to post and say look for damage to the neutral switch. i'm thinking that had to be it. | ||

I found my neutral to be leaking when I replaced the rotor nut. I removed it and taped the switch for reinstall. I screwed the switch in by hand and went to tighten using a 1/4" socket driver. The socket started spinning as if the threads were striped. The plastic hex portion of the switch actual broke off and was turning. I was not a happy camper. Fortunately the switch still operates since the electrical connection post was still attached. The only problem will be future replacement. It does not leak so that will be a winter project. I need to buy a new switch to see what parts could possible fall into the motor if I try to drill for removal. Moral of the story, be very gentle. | ||

I finally got around to buying a new switch for replacement. The center electrical post a solid piece bounded to the plastic. I was able to grasp the exposed post with a pair of pliers and rotate the switch out. Slick as can be. |
