Posts: 5 Reputation: Unranked [?] User Rank: Second Lieutenant Second Lieutenant Does anybody have experience with the Free Spirits undertray? http://www.freespirits.it/prodotti.php?lang=2&cat_ id=373&prod_id=108 I'm interested in a smooth undertray but I can't tell from the angles of their photos if it has a place for a license plate bracket. |

The Free Spirits undertray is more for race use, so you would have to modify it to fit a licence plate bracket and rear light etc. If you want one that has licence plate and rear light integrated then this may be better http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/427.html

Ya, I've seen that one. I want a hybrid. heh I want a place to put a plate but without the light. I'm going to try something with an LED bar for lighting that I saw over on the other board. |

I have zero skill with metal or fiberglass work, let alone a place to perform such work. heh Are you offering your services? |

Here is a photo provided by FreeSpirits. They told me there are no pre-drilled holes but there is an area to fix a bracket to it. This looks perfect for what I was hoping to do. I'm not sure what LED light bar they are using.

The light is not really what I'm after, it's the undertray. I'm going to copy Blaylock1988 and Urban_Assasult's use of the LED kit from Radiantz: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li3XyUeLXYo |

The tail light/indicator/licence plate on the Free Spirits picture above is from an Italian company called Mad Doctor. These used to be available in the UK but I haven't seen them for a while now. I don't think they offered an 1125 specific version or even a universal fitment, so this must be something from a Ducati or similar that hasbeen modded to fit the Buell. Rizoma offer a similar universal licence plate holder but without a tail light fitted http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/459.html These will fit to any flat surface and can be used with either a stock tail light or with the trick Kellerman combined indicator/tail lights like these http://www.adrenalinmoto.co.uk/prods/390.html which mean you don't need a tail light at all |

i have that undertray from free spirits (for sale). mine doesn't fit at all (too small on the sides, won't clip with the upper fairing and doesn't fit on the subframe either. normally, they make fantastic parts, but this one is just not good. maybe, i will laminate it with carbon-fibre and make it bigger, so it fits together with the solo-seat and the lightweight subframe from ebr... |

That's discouraging to hear. I wonder if that is a sign of a single sample, or if they are all subject to that fitment issue. |

I have never sold or seen one of these in the flesh, but their parts are normally very good and fit very well. Free Spirits don't make their own composite parts gets them from another Italian company called Kompo-Tech. If yours doesn't fit I would suggest getting in touch with Marcello at Free Spirits (or the retailer) so he can check with the manufacturer to make sure it is addressed on future models. I've had an undertray from Airtech for an XB12R that was also miles out and didn't anuwhere near fit, and they replaced it with one that did |

i'm not stating, that this part is rubbish...fact is that the tongue, with which you can attach the undertray to the subframe is not at the right place. it's too narrow, so the undertray itself is too narrow at the end. problem nr. 2 is, that there are no thread-inserts to attach the undertray to the bottomside of the subframe, nor is there an insert to attach the brake-fluid canister anyhow into a stable position. then it's too narrow on the sides, it doesn't "clip" underneath the upper fairing as the original part. together with the missing mounting points it is pretty useless for me, without further manipulation (laminating some inserts on and make it wider on the sides). checking the product fitment from time to time is not my duty, the freespirits guys should do that themselves, don't you think?. it's a pita to send the part back and pay taxes and shipping again. i'm very pleased with every other product i've got from them (side scoops, crashballs, loads of other things), just this one is useless without further work on it. not plug and play by far. that's all. they've got the best aftermarket parts for buell, that is for sure. twincycle parts are quite nice, too. |

that there are no thread-inserts to attach the undertray to the bottomside of the subframe, nor is there an insert to attach the brake-fluid canister anyhow into a stable position Irespective of the other problems you have with this part, you won't find a glassfibre or carbon fibre undertray on the market anywhere that has any thread insterts for the brake fluid reservoir or even to attach it to the frame. Most (even expensive carbon ones) are just a plain moulding and you may have to drill it or find another way to attach it. This is true for most undertrays for most bikes, not just the 1125. |

Sounds like an opportunity for an enterprising shop to commission fabrication of a subframe clamp lattice for mounting the reservoir and other items. |
