Ok here goes another exhaust question. I had my stock exhaust modified by Randy Hawkins, nice job however, I'm looking to upgrade my exhaust and possibly get better headers with some sort of heat shield.

I've come across several options, did some research on youtube and many have either the HMF set up, FMF Apex and I couldnt find D&D. For my experience havind D&D I know that they are LOUD! However, loud doesnt mean "performance" So what do you guys recommend, also, experience w these types of exhaust?

Thanks!~

ANYTHING BUT D&D!

Not only do they work against getting power (without a few hours of dyno time, you will LOSE almost 8HP) but the damn thing DRAGS ON THE GROUND long before your right peg.

running my d&d at the 1/8th mile strip, i lost 4-7 mph compared to my modified stock muffler. it only "sounds" fast. i'll take the sneaky pete over the poser noise. my whole reason for getting the d&d was to make my own muffler.

oh yeah, my modified muffler still got me 134.99 horses and 75.97 ft/lb.

Just my take on headers.

Not totally done with the whole thing as of yet, but initial testing has been pretty good so far. I need to get it to a dyno soon. Should make similar numbers to the factory full system, ie; 145+ hp at the wheel.

If you want to keep using the stock headers and get close to that, an RT-3 will fit and make pretty good power for a slipon system.

d&d is just Ridiculously loud, i thought mine was loud at 110db
my slip on made 138 rwhp on avalaugh's bike, this is what i'm currently working on, one drag bike full system and one road system, i wanted to make the headers fit up to the stock silencer if poss but it ain't gonna happen so i'm working on a quieter silencer as well, the noise police are in full effect over here on track days

Definitely one of Keda's and an EBR race ECM with a tune for that system to match and you will be highly pleased with the great performance unless of course you like it real quiet. No aftermarker systems are but Deans is not at all bad. They are also beautifully made out of SS.

Looking good Al,nice to see my spare engine being useful.lol

Got a few dyno runs done with Albert's slip on. TMstg1 ecm 138hp 74ftlb against 132 and 71 with a std ecm. A few hours work and finished with 146 and 80 using ecmspy on the std ecm(buezd)

Have you seen the American Sport Bike comparison? I think Keda and Barkers seem like the best bet depending on your price range and the look you're going for! I am personally planning on a Barkers mainly because it's much cheaper than the city beautiful Keda pieces. What ever you go for i think the matching tuned ecm is a given!

boogi not leaving a thing on the table. The shop that i bought it from dyno'd it at 133 rwhp.all stock with a D and d and ecm adjusted for the extra flow. the only reason i posted that number was for the decibel level for others to compare with other less loud pipes. i have dyno'd it anywhere from 120 to 136 rwhp depending on the Dyno, air temp, humidity and dyno operator

I had Loretta dyno'd on 3 different dynos different times, within a year.
All were 126-128.
Put her on the dyno a coupla weeks ago and 114-115. she must be sick.
Getting paranoid. Uly got a flat, driving the Camaro lately...

I'll tear into her when I get caught up porting Sportster heads.

Personal favorite (but a little our of my budget) is Dean's RT4. So, I purchased the RT2 and absolutely love it! Either way you go, you can't go wrong with KEDA. Good luck with what ever you decide though.

Dean, thats a nice setup are you doing it yourself? Any input so far? So far I may go with HMF with an EBR ecm that should do the trick however, I'm looking to either getting my headers powder coated I dont like shiny metal on my 1125R for that I have my HD Street Glide this is my fun bike.

Needless to say that the seat needs to go on these Buells boy do they suck major ass...

I know it is not on your list but I like my Torquehammer with an EBR ECM. not overly loud and tested reasonably well in the shootout

Chgofirefighter -- Yep, needs a little bit of tweaking to get it exactly how I want it. Front header needs to be set up differently than what it currently is. 2 small problems, one was the front tire touched after a semi-high wheelie and came down a little too hard. The other was just a spacing problem, rear header is good.

The only input I have at this point is the wideband O2 readings look good and it feels like it pulls even harder than it used to with an RT-3 on it. Too much going on lately to get to a dyno, need to call and schedule it soon. Once I have numbers in hand, I'll have them for sale on a build to order basis. This set took me 2 days to build, but I need to sort out some other details on how I want it to end up looking.

I've had a few pipes on my bike, and without a doubt the best one ever has to be the Albert pipe. Not only is the fabrication top quality, the sound is lovely and not annoyingly loud.

PM me in a couple weeks. I have an FMF I am going to install on one bike this weekend, and HMF on another, and one of them had a d & d on it when I bought it. All currently have stock cans, two with EBR ECM's.

I can tell you that the D & D is painfully loud. I got tired of the neighbors complaining and the police coming by. Didn't do much for performance either. So, in any case, will let you know on the side by side, non-official and seat-of-the pants comparison.

I just installed my FMF last week with the baffle on the quietest setting and I found it to be quite loud. How loud? I don't have a figure or anything to compare to. It seems like its the loudest when its idling but when riding it sounds alright.
This is with the stock ECM too..
I may want to look for a way to quiet it down or I may have to get another exhaust.

If your looking for a quieter performance exhaust call Dean and ask for the quiet version of the Keda RT1. He sells a quiet insert for his pipes and I made an additional insert into the tip. He could just integrate it into the pipe from the start. He knows about it, we talked about it and I sent him pictures. It sounds awesome all the time. Its not totally quiet but its neighborhood friendly. Idle is nice and mellow and can be ridden at all times without earplugs. I get compliments all the time on the sound of this bike.

Worth noting, I rode it with the stock ecm for a week until I got the EBR ecm. The bike is louder at idle with the stock ecm.
