Last week I had a new motor put in my R was out riding it today and noticed some coolant on the frame. Took off the pod and the coolant is half gone and it's comming from the right pod. It's leaking right out of the bottom of the radiator. I'll be taking it back to the dealer tomarrow but still have to ride it home today.



Just wanted to see how hot is too hot I've seen 195 so far.

This could be something as simple as a poorly attached hose clamp. Check the position of the hose clamp to verify that it's far enough up on the radiator connector to get a good bite on the hose. It might be worth stopping somewhere to pick up a screw-on clamp if you're looking at a long ride.

Just FYI the thermostat opens around 160*F and blocks the bypass to the cylinders at about 180*F. I've seen 195*F on many a hot day, and I consider that high-normal.

Of course it goes without saying that it would be a good idea to carry some water with you just in case...

I only seen tow clamps on the whole set up one on the big black hose and one behind the coolant tank. They other hoses that hook to the coolant tank have no pics is this normal?

I got about and hour ride with about half of the coolant left

checked my logs from when I had a low coolant problem:

When I first got the bike I had low coolant problems due to an underfill by dealer prep. On a 94*F day I had max coolant temps of 210*F. The bike turned out to be low on coolant by 425cc. I added distilled water.

Next ride that evening was 74*F with max coolant temps of 174*F after the fill.

On most of my fair-weather rides it seems as if the CT is in the range of environmental temp plus approximately 100*F.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Ive seen 240* (this was with the ORIGINAL ECM programming from 08', i havent seen over 220 in sometime and that was stuck in phoenix traffic on a 120* day...ya not fun) so you are fine to say the least.

bear in mind that if you're topping off with water then your Tmax is going to approach 212*F and then you start losing more fluid.

Coming off the track I've seen 220-plus. And that's with no antifreeze (antiboil) and no fans. More than once after shut-down the bike just sat there and gurgled for a while.

195 no problem - that's not to say I'd want to run that hot all the time. If it gets much higher, be sure you're running higher octane to lessen chance of detonation. If you get the high temp warning, you're probably too hot.

Had similar problem.

Either one of two things come to mind...
1.) both fans are not operating
2.) pinched hose

Absolutely make sure that you get all the air out of the system. If you don't, you'll cavitate the pump, meaning coolant will not be flowing through the engine. And damage will occur.
