Date taken 5/6/2012

Parked outside the Marina Pointe Apartments in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Red (has an 1125R fairing on it so it looks like an 1125R).

Guessing someone drove up and swiped it.

(anyone ever had this happen to them before, and if so how long did you wait to replace it?)

Old: If you immediately filed a police report and also notified your insurance company, then the clock starts then. It depends upon jurisdiction, but something like 30 days before it is termed 'unrecoverable'? I've heard as little as two weeks, but that's just a rumor AFAIK.

There's a special place in hell for bike stealers and child molesters.

Never happened to me, but now I'm worrying about those times when I leave my bike out overnight. I hope you get it back in good condition.

FWIW: Here's a story about how the chop shops operate:

A friend of mine recently had his Acura stolen in Austin, TX. It was sort of a beater as far as Acuras go, had a broken window, lots of miles, pretty beaten up, not well taken care of. But it had the high output engine that all of the "Tokyo drift" people love to shoehorn into a Honda Civic for street racing. One morning he went to go to work and they had stolen the car right out of his driveway while he was asleep. It looked like they quietly rolled it out into the street, pushed it down the block, and loaded in onto a flatbed.

It was found a few days later on the side of the road, midway between Austin and San Antonio near a ramp onto I-35.

The cops told him this was a typical Japanese motor theft. The bad guys have scouts who drive around the big cities on the interstates, and look at the parking lots for businesses that are located close to the interstate. It's the low-hanging fruit. Once they find a car in a lot, they stake-out the vehicle and follow it home. Then they plan the theft. The motor, airbags, interior seats, and wheels get stolen, and then the chassis gets dumped on the side of a road between two big cities.

What surprises me is that your thieves stole an 1125 -- it's not a popular bike, not that many people want it or need the parts. The chop shops usually steal popular bikes that are easy to part out. The 1125 community is pretty small. I'd start watching for parts sales in the nearby towns newspapers, on-line, ebay, craigslist, etc.

Good luck.
