I am getting ready to order all the parts for a rotor and stator upgrade/fix on my 09 CR. Last year I did the test and my stator was failing. It still had enough to keep it running but one of the legs was gone. I want to put the EBR rotor on and also swap out the stator. I see that they aren't offering the complete kit anymore. Do go with the 08 or 09 stator? Also, does anyone know the price and or availability of these?

Just in case there's any confusion: You can't mix and match 2008 and 2009 stators and rotors. You have to use a 2008 rotor with a 2008 stator, and a 2009 rotor with a 2009 stator.

EBR is only selling the 2009/10-type rotor now. IMO that puts an end to the debate about which setup is better. And having only one option makes the choice a lot easier.

Personally I'm set with the full ebr kit I bought for $900 awhile ago, but out of curiosity...the kit came with an 18 pole stator in the new (but same) cover and the oil-hole rotor. Are you saying the 18 pole stator is not offered now, and so what do you do with the burned 12 pole original?

That is correct, and if your 12 pole stator has failed, you just repair/replace it like any other failed part. The oil hole rotor looks promising, time will tell if it is a fix for sure.

So what would be the advantage or disadvantage of the 18 pole unit? And is that what is in the '08?

the 18-pole unit is what's in the 08. with regard to advantages, it's got a proven track record for not burning up. and with the oiling mod, it's going to be even more reliable. gotta love that.

Yep the 08 setup is proven to be as reliable as anything else in the motorcycle world, then the oil hole rotor further helps cooling, possibly extending its life further. The 12 pole setup has a higher output, so it will do a better job at running your lights and accessories, especially at lower RPMs, but the design was failure prone. Assuming the oil hole rotor setup keeps the 12 pole stators alive, it will be the better setup to have. Time will tell, but I trust Erik and the gang with this.

Very cool (pun intended) since I don't run no sissy accessories! Thanks.
