Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BATTERY
Potential Number of Units Affected: 20,512

Summary: KAWASAKI IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2011 NINJA ZX-10R, AND 2009-2012 NINJA ZX-6R MOTORCYCLES MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 14, 2007 THROUGH JULY 26, 2011. DUE TO A MANUFACTURING ERROR, THE REGULATOR/RECTIFIER MAY INSUFFICIENTLY CHARGE THE BATTERY.

Consequence: IF THE BATTERY DISCHARGES, THE MOTORCYCLE MAY STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: KAWASAKI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 24, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KAWASAKI AT 949-770-0400.

The following is a stupid attempt at stand-up (dark) humor (few of us are laughing though):

My 2009 1125R stalled, increasing the risk of a crash, when its battery discharged the first time and was later found to have a defective voltage regulator.

It stalled again when its battery discharged the second time with the new voltage regulator and was found to have a defective alternator stator.

Where is our 1125 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BATTERY RECALL?
Certainly there was a manufacturing error, or are we of no consequence?

I hear you. I agree, we should have a recall, but they chose to do warranty replacement instead. I kind of feel like we've all been told to go fish.

Playing the devil's advocate, the bike can run a long enough on the battery for someone who monitors his instruments to have plenty of time to recognize the dead regulator problem, and shut down the bike before it stalls and puts you at risk of injury. I understand though ... lots of people don't want to pay attention to mundane things like gauges when they're enjoying a ride.

When I went to formula car racing school, one of the things that they beat into your head was that at every moment, your brain was supposed to be operating in a scanning loop. It involved taking mental pictures of the track, scanning all of the gauges in order, and as soon as you had scanned everything, starting the loop over again. It's your responsibility as the driver never to let your attention be drawn away from continually monitoring the condition of the car. It's not easy. It's that sort of discipline that makes great drivers great.

Part of being a good rider is to be vigilant about scanning all of your gauges so that you can recognize that a problem is brewing before the bike lets you feel it. Having been trained to vigilantly scan monitors in my work environment, I apply the same principles while I'm riding, just out of habit. I don't want to be the guy who doesn't worry about fuel consumption until the idiot light goes on, who only worries about engine temp when his leg starts to get a burn, or who looks at system voltages only when the bike starts to sputter. The instruments are there to let me know what's going on before a failing system would adversely effect the bike, or my safety, so I try to allocate a slice of brain time to always keeping an eye on them. I like to think of it as part of being one with the bike.

Where is our 1125 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BATTERY RECALL?

In my humble opinion the only way that 1125 has it's own Recall for this issue, is that American 1125 Buell Owners sue HD, for this...
I'm sure that in the States you will win, and then the rest of the owners of other countries can get this Recall...

I'll try myself, but in Spain, to sue a company is extremely difficult and very expensive, besides the number of 1125 Buell owners in Spain are not more than 50, and that I know not more than 10 because we are at www.buellmotards.com, so we have few specific weight against the HD.}

LOL. That's why, when it became clear to Kawasaki that the KLR-650 doohickey is a grenade waiting to go off, they continued producing the bike with it for, oh, say about 20 more years? : )

That actually happened to me when the battery brand new battery mind you die. Luckily i was coming right up to a light.
