Has anyone seen the integrated shift light ever come on? Was it 2008 model feature or does it still exist on the 2009 model?

All years of the 1125 have it, but it is hard to see during the day, and not much better at night. If you rev the bike while in neutral you will see it come on.

You can also see it when you first turn the key on and the needle sweeps up and then back down. I've only really seen it a few times when I red line when hauling butt and taking 2nd, 3rd & 4th to red line

This must be a really secretive function as I can't even find a reference to it in the owner's manual. Where exactly on the IC is it? Also, what's the purpose of it of it only illuminates when you've maxed out the rpms? I'd think the rev limiter would stop someone from over stressing the engine.

Instrument Cluster: Buell 1125 Models

Top of page

LCD Screen

See Instrument Cluster. The LCD screen (1) displays a digital speedometer, odometer, clock,
and text messages. The LCD screen is illuminated when the ignition key switch is in the ON or
PARKED position. See LCD Screen.

Tachometer

See OPERATING RECOMMENDATIONS section. Do not operate the engine above
maximum safe RPM as shown under OPERATION (red zone on tachometer). Lower the RPM
by upshifting to a higher gear or reducing the amount of throttle. Failure to lower RPM may
cause equipment damage. (00159a)

The tachometer (2) displays engine speed in revolutions per minute (RPMx1000). As the
tachometer approaches the redline, the color of the needle changes from orange to red.

It doesn't. It comes on shortly before you hit redline, and in neutral at 4500RPM if I remember right. You will also momentarily see it when you first turn the key on and the gauges sweep. Again it is hard to notice during the day, the only times I have ever seen it come on when I was slowly accelerating near redline at night. If you are drag racing you would probably have an aftermarket light installed anyway. : )

Yea seen mine once or twice, if you ever hit redline at night time its pretty noticeable, other than that the needle vibration and day light make it hard to see.

CAPTJOE, there is no secret hidden light, it's the actual tach needle that lights up...

I saw it! Finally paid attention during the needle sweep at startup and it does brighten up! Wow... One just keeps discovering things on these bikes! : D

if you blow a shift the light will come on long before redline; it comes on in neutral if you overrev to a point that's not good for an unloaded engine.

i can't imagine that i'm the only guy who blows a shift. it happens more often than i'd care to admit when going from 2nd to 3rd under WOT.

This was one feature I was bummed about with the 1125 when they came out.
A lot of bikes in the class have programable shift lights (actual light), was hoping for that.

Oh well.
Like Froggy said, if youre really doing some racing you'll probably have a larger light installed anyway
