Rear wheel on ground good for checking oil ect. and nice and stable 1/2"pipe & 3/4 bolt   rear wheel off the ground  front wheel off the ground 3/8 pipe & 1/2 pipe      home made tool for axel. Allen wrench & 7/8 nut & washer. My tool kit did not have any wrench to losen the axel it had that double nut like thing so I made this. I have a heavy duty one now.Jack stands parts 2-3/4 x 3" bolts, 2-1/2"x4" gas pipe 1-3/8x4" gas pipe I welded a bolt inside the 3/8 pipe just to make it stronger + about 8' angel iron I used an old bed frame like i said I am cheap. 12 3/8" to CL rear wheel and 13" to rase the wheel and 12 3/8" for front . For the angel iron frame 2 at 16" 1 at 14". The3/8 pipe and the 3/4" bolt are 2" apart    (Message edited by dennis c on March 28, 2012) | ||

"necessity is the mother of invention" So true, and as many people that have bought nice factory stands and have had to redo them to make them work properly (not all of course), I fabbed this one, below, it works great and is height adjustable. Recently I added small wheels to make it easier to use. Cost one pc. 10' conduit, about $3.00, one can gold spray paint, $3.00 and now some wheels, about $5.00. Total $11.00 and my welding, free. I made one for the front also. Same cost.  | ||

How do you get the bike in the air to slide the pipe in the axle when you have the tires off the ground? | ||

If you mean me put the triangle in first on the opposite side of the kick stand real easy. | ||

Q - other than lubing the belt (  ), what are you lifting the rear by the axle for? If I'm lifting the bike, I'm either washing it or pulling the back wheel, which you can't do with a stand that lifts by the axle | ||

Like you said washing the bike ha ha like I do all the time. Or it makes it more stable for any kind of work. I think more stable than the kind of stands like pit bull you could make them a lot wider if you want and rear wheel only. I made mine for front wheel off ground and rear wheel on or off the ground that made them about 4" wider than they would have to be. No good for pulling rear wheel like I said before very cheep to make yard sale for old bed frame any kind 1/2" pipe conduit,gas,water,3/4" bolt X 3 or 4" a little time with with a welder | ||

the $45 trackside stands at cg fit my 08 on the axle sliders which are wider than the swingarm spools would be if i had any. eventually i will drill and tap the swingarm for spools but for now the sliders work. |
