I just installed a non HD new battery on My 2008 1125r and since the terminals are on the opposite side of the HD battery I had to re rout the main positive and negative leads. While installing the leads touched opposite terminals and the bike tried to start without the key in the ignition. Now I'm popping the 15amp fuel pump fuse when I try to start the bike and I'm getting fuel system error. HELP!!! | ||

1)take the battery back to where you bought it and exchange it for one with correct terminal orientation ( they make them - I have one installed) - the cabling on the wire harness is HD specific - if you at least get a new battery with the correct orientation - the (+) terminal comes very close to the frame rail which is grounded(-) if they touch - Arc welding will occur!- insulate the (+) from the frame rail best you can. 2) there is a plastic box back by the battery with relays in it ( a lot of white ones and (1) black one) the black relay controls the starter function among other things - pull it take it to the auto parts store and get a new one - I believe it is a common headlight relay - with all your effort of re-routing the wiring you may have damaged this relay...and it's stuck "on"....this is a start...there may be more problems 3) think about what you have done and try your best to "un-do it" before you connect the battery again - please try and get a battery with the correct terminal orientation - motorcycles do not ride like your grand pa's buick - rerouting that wiring can cause issues when your out on the road...in Alaska if you breakdown...there are things that can eat YOU! good luck (Message edited by nuts4mc on March 28, 2012) | ||

that (1) relay controls starting/lights/and charging...take it out - hook up the battery and see what happens...( or what doesn't happen!)- I changed mine as HD uses that same relay to control starting on V-Rods...and they been known to fail... possibly the same manufacturing engineers that designed the Vrod wire harness did the 1125's...some of the components on the bike are not of a superior quality ( ! )...it seems the (HD) cost accountants attacked before they built anything....again good luck - you can make it work | ||
