Hey Guys-

While this is my first post, i have been watching & reading BWB for quite some time. I also spend a good day plus looking for answers and didnt find a definate one. Heres my situation:

I was working on my Buell this past weekend de-winterizing it so I could take it out as we are having some freakishly warm weather in WI. I re-installed the battery and was putting the rest of the bike back together. I went to start it with no issues, but then when i pulled the clutch in, it wouldnt go into any gear! It is stuck in neutral. I thought that for some reason, over the winter something happened and i got air in the lines, so i bled the clutch 4 times, still same issue. I did notice that i was getting a hissing sound of a bad seal when i would pull the clutch in. I narrowed it down to the Clutch actuator cylinder, so i am going to EBR today to pick up his kit (middle finger to Harley wanting 3 times the amount for it and 4-6 weeks on order). So my question is kinda two-fold:

1. Has anyone else experienced this when pulling there bike out of storage?

2. With replacing the cylinder kit, will this fix the problem?

Thanks everyone! I want to get my bike fixed for the weekend. Its suppose to be in the 70's in Milwaukee this weekend!

Hey, I have not herd or have not had that issue, Your going to the right place to get the parts.... Run it by EBR. If you think about it post what they think it might be. I would think it would fix it,

When my clutch slave cylinder was leaking, it would become hard to put into gear with the motor running. It would slam into first gear and jump the bike forward with the clutch lever pulled in all the way. It made no difference with the engine NOT running. I could rock it back and forth just a little and change gears as always. Can you change gears without the engine running? Keep a little pressure on the shifter, and roll the bike forwards or backwards. If it is not shifting at all, there might be something else wrong.

The clutch is not needed to shift gears, move the bike backwards and forwards while pressing the lever like Pmjolly suggests. Do that with the motor off.

Thanks everyone, I know that when the motor is off and I rock the bike i can get it into gear. If the bike is sitting still, it wont go into gear when pulling the clutch, even hitting the shift lever hard to go into 1st.

Don't force it too hard. It will not always go in and out of gear while sitting still and the motor off. This is why you rock it forward and backwards. The clutch won't do a whole lot for shifting if the motor is off. That's all normal for any motorcycle I've had. I'll bet you have a bad clutch slave cylinder. It's easy to fix. I would get the EBR parts.

That's how my bike is, you may have to rock the bike forward to put the bike in gear if it has been off for a while.
If you have the engine running you should be able to place the bike in gear with out rocking it forward.
