So rode about 200 miles yesterday 2-up. Stopped about half way out and noticed that about a 8 inch strip of "tire wire" about an inch wide on my rear tire. Bike as 2500 miles on it with the stock diablos. The real PITA was convincing my gf it would be alright and we'd make it home, so we turned around and rode home carefully. My question would be what tires should I get? I ride this bike as a commuter and fun on twisty roads, never track. I don't want to give up too much performance. The front tire doesnt show any wires but I'm thinking I should just change them both? or no? Sucks only 2500 Miles but they are great tires. | ||

a) do a search on tires - there are many choices b) like Pirelli - if you do more touring than sport = Pirelli's Angel series c) Like the Michelin man? I hear good things about their 3CTs d) above choices too costly? - Bridgestone's new BT 023 good luck | ||

Michelin Power Pure!! They are very light which makes turning easier. The grip is fantastic and they warm up quickly. The bikes grips amazing in rain. and they lasted me 4000 miles vs 2500 on the corsa 3's. Thats my thoughts! | ||

The pure is a GREAT sport tire and that is what I run on mine but I don't think it's a good choice for a 2-up or a commuter tire. I would look at a pilot road 2 or 3. | ||

I go through a lot of tires, I'd go Bridgestone 023. All the usual reasons for your useage. | ||

Stupid question but I would reckon that 2up would put more use on your tires. The Mrs. and I have been going 2up every weekend for couple hundred miles or so. Mainly interstate and back roads. Will this undoubtedly cause even the new tires to wear much faster? Compared to me alone just commuting to work. I'm 195 shes 130 | ||

I've posted this before - on my daily driver ('zuki DL1000) I use a cruiser tire - it wears like iron on the interstate - but it's not a sport bike tire ( the Big DL isn't a sport bike..but has the lineage to think it's one!) - two up, try more air pressure in the tire... not tooo much - look at the tire manufacture's recommendation and ask yourself the question motorcyclists have been asking for decades - Where does all that rubber go? | ||

Leave the Mrs at home. #1 get better tire wear. #2 stay out as long as you want #3 do all the wheeles you want #4 you can get any kind of bike you want. #5 get better gas MPH #6 you dont have to stop as often.   | ||

I've tried several, for a performance tire, I think it's hard to beat the Dunlop Q2's. I have the angels on my R. I'm on my 2nd rear and 1st front. When I lived in so. Cal I rode everyday to work. They lasted me approx 4000 miles. The. Enter is harder for commuting and the sides are softer for corner traction. My front tire still has alot of rubber in the center but the sides are almost down to the wear indicators. My commute was 70 miles round trip. But now it's 72 one way. | ||

I ride mainly north of Greensboro, Danbury, Danville VA, Kernersville area. Sometimes I head out towards wilksboro and boone to get on the BRPKWAY. Usually do those rides on weekends. I'd always be down for a ride! Let me know | ||

How do you toast a set of tires in 2500 miles? Were you doing smoke shows? What was you tire pressure at? | ||

35/36 usually. Idk man i usually ride in 90 degrees plus. Alot of backroads but mainly highway commute. I've heard of corsa's wearing around 2500 3k. My front isnt that bad I'd just rather have a new set and a fresh 6k Oil change so I can ride for 6K and do it all over again$$$$$. | ||

90+ temperatures sounds very nice. The fastest way to heat up a tire is hard acceleration and hard braking. You are having some serious fun! | ||

I had an epiphany during the off season and decided that my 1125r is my fun bike. Thats why I bought it! It's not a investment or a garage ornament, So I'm gonna treat it as such. These bikes were made to be ridden. Of Course I baby it, but at the same time I ride the piss out of it! The bike loves it! He tells me so! haha | ||

BTW does adding or subtracting rear Pre-load when 2up have any affect on rear tire wear? I feel like it could but probaly doesnt. | ||

Duct tape will allow you to add many miles to the life of your tire. Just have to wrap it with about 6 layers, every 40 miles or so. DAMHIK  | ||

Preload shouldn't have a direct effect on tire wear It will effect handling, so it could have an indirect effect on tire wear | ||

Yeah, my original rear tire was gone in under 1700 and that's when breaking it in! | ||

I have a set on mine too, after 800 miles the angel on the back is gone. Front still faintly visible. | ||

It's funny -- I didn't realize how merciless this bike was on rear tires until I started riding it HARD. If you're gentle, you can get lots of miles out of them. If you ride them hard, you can expect to leave a lot of rubber behind on the pavement in no time. I babied my bike a bit when I was in the break-in period and I was first getting used to it, and there wasn't any tire wear at all. Then when I started riding it hard, the tires went away in no time. | ||

I had terrible mileage with my stock tire as well; I think i got 2500km out of it. I changed to Continental Road Attacks; and have loved them. I too commute, and do some touring. I get 10,000+ KM's now on a set. They handle awesome and have been extremely reliable. No, I am no overly gentle; and I'm a big guy. |
