I don't know what it is with this bike of mine. They were great all last season pulled open the throttle today clank have to turn it back by hand. Pulled everything off nothing. No hose hanging no binding in the venturies? I pull off the return cable and it works like a charm yet nothing I mean nothing is binding alone only when it's all together????????
BTW the cables are not binding at all and everything is well lubricated!!!!!!!

Some times when the bars are turned to full lock one way or the other, it will do this. usually to the right. My V-star did the same thing, and my CR does it when in full lock to the left sometimes...not alway which is weird...

Also try adjusting them. the may have stretched over the winter, or less likely they may have shrunk. Adjustment is a big thing. too.

Good luck.

Routing is fussy as well.

check your throttle body to see if they are seated properly on the rubber seats front and back. Improper seating causes throttle cable to bind.

Try this.

Pull the throttle cable away from the throttle and the throttle body. Place a rubber hose over the end with the ID of the rubber hose snug to the outer casing of the throttle cable. Make it several inches long so the product you introduce into the throttle cable has a reservoir, so to speak.

Slowly spray WD-40 into this reservoir, holding it as upright as you can. In no time, the other end of the throttle cable will start puking all this nasty stuff out. Have an old t-shirt on the throttle body end to catch the crud. You will not believe all the crud that will come out.

When you are satisfied that you've got most of that crud out, pull the rubber hose off the throttle and clean with electrical contact cleaner. Wait for it to dry or blow compressed air through to speed it up.

Now start spraying cable lube down into the same reservoir you made and let gravity do it's thing. Use enough that it pushes the remaining crud and WD-40 out and replaced with the cable lube.

Will take less than an hour and a good PM to do every spring. Enjoy a beverage of your choice when you're done...

the infamous breather tube? - in the air box - if it's not "pulled up" into the box...the hose will rub the linkage between the two Throttle bodies...put some lube on the outside of the hose/linkage and see if that helps...the hose is on the opposite side of the cable attachment points/pulley. I ground a slight taper on the end of the hose to help start it into its "pigeon hole"...grabbed the end with some needle nose pliers and pulled it up while checking the throttle operation.
Make big gentle bends with the cables - I don't tie mine down in the front but "tie" them together with some black spiral wrap like they use on wire harnesses. The cables are free to float just under the Inst Cluster. Good luck Mr. Bear!

if they're fine when they are loose and not when assembled into the throttle housing, check the routing of the cables inside the throttle housing. i've had mine go all wacky on my XB trying to re-assemble & getting everything lined up.

joel9 is correct... the "quality" of the twist grip mechanism/casting/molding has been attack'd by the bean counters at HD...Mr.Bear you gotta have patience with this part - if we do track days/race out here on the left coast the first thing tech inspection does is check to see if the throttle "snaps" close - some times it's as simple as the grip rubbing on the housing (a squirt of lube and you're good to go) other times your wishing that you replaced it with one off a competitors machine...again good luck

NP Dave, glad I could help.

FYI Brum was having trouble with cables for the high bar kit, not the clubmans.
For anyone having trouble with sticking cables with the high bar kit here is what I did.

Mine go up through the middle of the headlight boots and go over the right side headlight mount(the one that mounts to the top tree). Then they come out next to the ignition. Works like a charm, does not bind full turn either way.
Just be sure to sand down the sharp edge on the mount or insulate the cable with some rubber hose, tape, or similar. It probably wouldnt hurt it, but may start to wear through the rubber outside.

Its very easy and makes a huge difference IMO.
By putting the cables below the top mount you are making them do a "S" bend due to the added height of the bars. On the clubmans its not a issue because the bars are lower and feed in right below the headlight mount. When you raise them up a few inches it makes them double bend and binds them up very badly.

You may want to loosen up the throttle tube/switch housing clamp bolts. If mine are too tight, it will turn my throttle into a suicide cruise control.
