you have the 2008 cluster right? piece of crap - mine get black bleeding points, only the 2009s and 10s are working well

Ciommon if you still have warranty get exchanged. If not take apart and reset with super glue

These things aren't easy to take apart... You will probably destroy it trying. (I did...)

I'd either deal with it or get a new cluster...

Have same problem (see Gremlin in Gauge Cluster post). Mine is not under warrantee. In my case the person that works on my bike put it best in regards to running diagnostics I would spend a lot just to have a dealer diagnose it, to possibly get the answer "I'm sorry Mr. ____, but it'll need to be replaced" (at $85 per hr) plus the cost of a new gauge set..." I am replacing the cluster. The cluster is still available through HD at around $280.

My bike did the same thing. I just took it to the dealership and had them put a new one in. My bike is still under warranty until Oct 2014 though.

I tested the super glue!
sounds good! no more shaker pointer above 6000 rpm and is in the correct position!

Mine did that and after a few key on key off cycles it came back on its own. Mine had dust getting in and I had it warrantied for that. But the needle position fixed itself.
