Hi all Found a well taken care of 1125cr. Was wondering if 9k on the clock is a bit high. Seems like the owner has taken care of it and he worked out all the ECM issues and pipe stuff already. What else should I examine with consideration to buying this bike? Thoughts? | ||

9K isn't even to first valve check yet. 08 09 10? Different issues between the. 08 and later years | ||

it's a CR, so probably an '09. I have an '08 R with over 17,000 miles on it and the motor is stronger than when i bought her new at the dealership with 60 miles on her. The thing to worry about on the CR is the stator and VR. But with 9k, and if it hasnt had any problems, it's probably one of the good ones that wont fail on you. | ||

Well, I know a guy with over 100k on his 1125R. I've got around 35k on mine. 9k is broken in, and that's about it.  Not even a factor. | ||

My CR has 16,000 miles and sweeter than ever. Going at a familiar pace with the 100hp boys the CR isn't working too hard to keep up, the S1 on the other hand needs top ends. Are the valve checks more expensive than an air cooled motor needing frequent refreshes? Probably not. | ||

WHAT 100K!?!?!? Why do people think 100k miles on a motorcycle is weird? Cars do it all the time, and some people don't use motorcycles as a weekend toy, they're daily drivers. The guy I know just happens to commute a long distance every day. | ||

The showroom 1125r motor is so detuned, I'd not be surprised at all to see one make 100k with good care. These are really reliable motors. I had a *race* motor make it to 40k. Sure, it was kinda soft on power, but understand the weekend-in and weekend-out abuse that thing took... 10k street miles... they are just breaking in! | ||

Think about it the other way around. Why doesn't Honda or Suzuki use motorcycle engine technology in their cars? A GSXR-1000 (1 liter engine) is making 170+ HP. So a 2.0 liter suzuki econobox should be able to pull 340 horsepower. Why not? Uh, because car people expect 100k reliable miles out of their cars, and don't expect to pay for valve adjustments. All that being said, the fact that modern bike motors can make that much power and last that long (especially a twin) is simply amazing. | ||

Its not very common atleast to my ears. I had 85k on my little sv650 and gave it to my brother I'm sure he will take the bike over 100k but I don't think you can really compare the 2. When you want performance you always have to sacrifice something wether its engine life or reliability | ||

I'm at about 20k miles on both my 1125s. I'll never hit 100k on them just due to the fact that I have multiple bikes, and will keep adding more to the stable. I do have well over 100k miles combined on multiple Buells though. 9k miles? It is a baby, might even be on the original tires! | ||

Syonyk, can you post a picture of the odo? Id love to have it. Hopefully Ill be able to take my own but I fear im at least 5 years out on that quest. Does it have a 1 or does it start over? Love to be able to show the rice guys I work with that keep telling me the Buell wont last. | ||

Half the guys that frequent the Big Bad and Dirty section have 50K+ Ulys, a few at or around 100k too. There are numerous XBs with 70K on their clocks too. The 1125 just hasn't been around long enough, and the fact that it isn't really a touring bike means it will be a while before we see many hit the 50k mark, but it will happen. | ||

My XB12R had 49k when my buddy wrecked it. I am a half a hair away from 12k on the CR. The CR is normally my daily rider, but I've been on the rifle and pistol range the past week and a half, so it sits... Soon though... (Message edited by Dhays1775 on February 28, 2012) | ||

I own a number of bikes, and I try to put at least 5k per year on each one, just to keep them all in a well-ridden state. Like Froggy, I rotate through them. I bought a 94 BMW R1100RSL when the oil-cooled boxers first came out in 1993. The oilhead has a hugely reliable powertrain. I still have it, with 250,000+ miles on the million-mile odometer. That annualizes to about 13-14k miles per year for that bike. That poor bike must be feeling neglected now -- I haven't been taking it out as much since I got the 1125R. |
