Relays go into the fix and where. I am gonna replace them and try to get a little more out of it. I disconnected the FIX and my charging system is working fine so I want to reinstall it to try to make it through the season.

Brumbear,

The charging system will work with out the charging harness, however the stator will over heat and can fail prematurely.

If the charging system works without the charging harness, and does not work properly with the charging harness installed, then you have it installed incorrectly.

The relay plugs into the charging harness, where the charging harness runs next to subframe, by the battery.

DK it was working fine for 10K miles then started coming on at idle(charge light) so I disconnected the fix and it worked fine for another 1K miles and I wanted to protect from failure as long as possible. I will replace the relays and reinstall the fix just to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks Sammy

Brumbear,

If the relay is bad the bike will not charge at idle, the relay must energize for the third leg of the stator to be connected.

The HD P/N for the charging harness relay is 31504-91B
You can get it for about $10

How many relays are there for the charging harness? I replaced one but at idle I still drop to the low 12s. Any other idea what it could be?
Thanks

Coastie71, There is only one relay on the harness. Your harness *might* not be installed correctly (some dealers skipped swapping the pins at the ECM connection), or your ECM might not have the programming to control the relay.

One more question. What does it mean if everything works fine until the radiator fans kick on and the volts drop to the low 12s?
Thanks again

it's not charging at that moment. Does not mean it isn't charging. I believe it will not charge the batt when only 2 legs are on it will only bareley maintain if at all. When all 3 are on it will charge. This is what the "fix" does it shuts down a leg to keep the stator cool enough.

Well put the fix back in with the relay works like it used to at idle the light comes on over 5K it charges. If I disconnect the fix thing works perfectly? If I have a low batt problem in the future I'll return it to NO FIX get home and pick up the stator kit I just don't have another $1000 right now.
