Owner's manual says first check is at 12,400 miles. Second one at 31,000 miles.

Service Manual says first check is at 12,400 miles. Second one at 23,800 miles.

What gives? Which is correct?

In other words, the Owner's Manual is a typo?

That means mine is due for its second "rotation".

so both are wrong... 23,800 isn't 12,400 more than 12,400.

The first service is at 1,000 km, or roughly 620 miles.
The rest of the services are at 10,000 km intervals(~6200 miles).
There was a huge typo in the first owner's manuals in converting to miles...
Just be close, do ALL the stuff required at each step and keep good records.

The manual also says change the oil every 10K km, but the filter every 20K km.
Valve check and spark plugs are on a 20K km cycle.
My first 2 services were done with a "rough draft" version of the FSM as it didn't come out in print until July 2008.
By then, Loretta was 7 months old and had 7-8K miles on her.

I did my first service early, at 400 miles, 2nd at 6.4K miles, 3rd at 12.8K miles, 4th at 19K and 5th at 25.6K.
Loretta is happy and we are out of warranty for almost two years now.
For some odd reason, I had warranty for 28 months starting 18DEC07 and ending 01APR10.

BTW, Critical Fasteners are those that, if they come loose while riding you will die...
The first section in the FSM(General Maintenance) starts with a chart of those fasteners and their torques.
