So guys, here in the past couple of days my gauges have been going crazy on me..

Considering the outside temp being between 25F and 50F throughout the week, for the most part my bike reads it spot on. But there are times i'll look down 10 miles into my commute and it'll read 94F or 102F and eventually drop back down. My coolant temp stays between 164F and 173F.. I've checked fluid and the works, but never seen anything like this before. I ride in all weather conditions so you think the rain may have something to do with it?

Any thoughts or similar situations?
Unless i'm driving past someone in their truck with the heat on full blast..?

The air temperature sensor is located right in between the radiator fans, so once they start kicking in, it will blow hot air onto the sensor giving a high reading.

I've always thought that the ambient air temp sensor isn't even supposed to tell you the ambient air temp.

I've always thought it was supposed to tell the FI system the temperature of the intake air. That's what the ECM needs to know to select the right map.

Intake air temp reading matters to the ECM, but since the ambient air temp isn't supposed to be indicating the weather, it means nothing to me.

at times in slow traffic I see odd readings

as said earlier the air temp is to modify the fueling allowing for density differences, a carburetor does this inherently..

its normal to a degree

I am haVing the same problem. And not sure why as of yet. I haven't ridden in a month or so because of the weather here in Pittsburgh.
I agree with froggy on the location and then fans but, however mine will do it randomly and it DOES NOT coincide with the fans on and off being that the fans run 90% of the time.

I have spoken with EBR about some other issues I am having ecm related. I did bring this up to him.

Usually if the sensor goes bad.... It's bad. So I am going to be looking for a possible loose connection or a broken wire somewhere.

My bike does run goofy when the temp spikes for the IAT..... So it does affect the ecm and throw it curves.

Hopefully someone else may have an opinion or suggestion.
FYI... My bike is an 08 1125r old gauge cluster, eve ecm and jardine rt5. K&n filter. Otherwise stock.
