Hey guys, My poor bike's been having a horrible past couple of months. After it being nearly stolen and somewhat vandalized in the process, I fixed it up before tucking it in for the cold months. Well, a couple days ago someone must have hit it in its parking space, thus knocking it over. I found it later that evening. I picked it up (wow, heavy bike), gave it a quick once-over, and fired it up. Everything sounded/looked good. I noticed right away, however, that the clutch lever seemed rather light. Granted, the bike was laying on that side, so maybe it lost some tension somehow. Either way, when I squeezed the lever fully and dropped the bike into 1st, it lunged forward. It was too dark and rainy to do much else that night, so I left the rest for today. I went back out and the same thing happened. I let it warm-up thoroughly, first. I disconnected what must be the sensor on the underside of the clutch lever, and it looked to be a little wet. I left it unplugged to dry out. So, that's where I stand right now. Any advice? What else can I look for? I'd really like to get the bike moving again so I can put it someone a bit more safe. I'd like to keep it in tact so that I can sell it off in the spring. Thanks, guys! | ||

Odds are it has air in the line. Working the clutch lever _might_ fix it, but I'd have a close look at the wet area, it may be brake fluid and if so, you'll need to add a bit to it and bleed the air out properly to have it at the correct level. | ||

Update: D_adams, you were right. I finally got around to bleeding the clutch today. MAN, was it easy! I used a cheap one-man-bleeder from Autozone and knocked it out in less than 10 min (that includes set-up time). The clutch actually feels better than it has in a while. Who knows, maybe I could have benefited from it a while ago. Thanks again for the help! |
