Santa brought me tix to Laguna for the Moto GP Race weekend. Any suggestions regarding where to stay, vantage points at the track, things to do, etc would be appreciated. | ||

Al Lighton Jerry Johnson and Ebear set up the camping each year. If you don't want to camp overnight, you really should look into hotels in Salinas. Monterey is horribly expensive (though closer). Motorcycles get priority over cars on gate entry. I'd recommend buying paddock passes!!! You get into the AMA paddock (NOT the MotoGP) Also, would recommend getting grandstand seats for the main events. We get seats in the Turn 4 stands where we get a good view of the JumboTron screens so you can get a good look at the race action when it's not in view. The MAIN thing is to get paddock passes if they aren't part of your package already... ESPECIALLY since E B R is sure to be there with Geoff May and team. | ||

Also if you watch the races from the site in Corkscrew View, you'll have a bunch of cool people to hang out with. The downside to camping is the alcohol and noise. It tends to be loud and rowdy at a few other campsites. | ||

There are some mom & pop motels in Seaside as well as popular chains just north of the track next to Monterey you might consider. | ||

My wife got the Pit passes so we're good there. After reading Slaughter's response I let her know it was a good call. I was able to get a hotel reservation but was shocked to see Holiday Inn Express at $775 per night. It's a Holiday Inn Express! Thinking about renting a bike for the weekend. I'm sure there is no shortage of good riding in the area. | ||

When i went a few years ago, we flew in and rented an RV, then camped at the track. That was tons of fun! And fairly inexpensive also. | ||

The local hotels just rape people during MotoGP, typically tripling their prices. This is the primary reason that Moto2 and Moto3 won't be there: it's just too expensive since they don't have their motorhomes. Even a good 40 miles south I paid $80 to stay Sunday AFTER the event before I rode back to Phoenix. Camping is a good time but it is loud at night. Best to spend Friday and Saturday walking around to figure out where you want to watch from. You have to at least go to the top of the corkscrew to get a true understanding of how steep it is, it just doesn't come through on the TV. If you don't camp at the track, expect heavy traffic in and out especially after the MotoGP race. It can take a long, long time to get anywhere. |
